The GDA approval of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of Covid 19 is NOT a case of ghe FDA saying iff label prescription is fine. The FDA has no authority over off label prescription, which is a very common practice. Hydroxychloroquine was being prescribed off label before the FDA announcement.

The FDA announcement matters only because the US Federal Goverment has been given mamy doses of the drugs by pharmaceutical companies. So it has to decide what to fo with them.

It diesn’t regulate yhe practice of medicine. That is hanfled by stste licensing boards ( ha ) and really by the threat of malpractice lawsuits. Not ideal, but the way things are in the USA.

You see, he is just VERY CURIOUS if anybody who was already taking hydroxychloroquine for lupus or arthritis has gotten coronavirus,

(yell at clouds)

Let's not talk dosage - for all we know, the amount of HCQ people take for lupus is under the needed amount to impact coronavirus. Or maybe it is sufficient. We simply don't know yet.Let's not talk about asking random lupus patients if they got the corona. Unless you round up all of them (OK, round up a representative part of them), you could miss the ones who did get infected.

No, what's irking me about these panic apologists is that, according to them, we don't have the time to do perfect studies with good negative controls (never mind that people did take the time to do studies, it's just that in too many cases they did a piss-poor job at it), but apparently we do have plenty of time to go around asking silly questions.

You haven't seen the size of my rolled-up newspaper.I may need bit of help to lift it, though.

It's ridiculous.Even if HCQ does work for combating corona, which is unproven at the moment, there's a lot of problems suddenly combining new medication with people who have other health problems. But hey Jared Kushner is on it - everyone will be fine.

I heard a maybe-apocryphal story about a guy who wanted "Pop Goes The Weasel" played at his funeral. He imagined the attendees listening to it while looking at his coffin "in horrified anticipation."

The death-rate is doubling every 3 days . If this rate continues there will be over 5 million killed by the virus by June 9th . Ain't math fun ?
