Yes it is! I was already in the hospital when the doctor came in for that talk, but I don't think the setting helped cushion it any. If anything, it made it worse. Go in with A, get told about B.
OTOH, it can also be a good thing. It helped me regain some empathy that had been left along the road of life. I don't think the experience made me more empathetic, but it damn sure reminded me of what you said earlier: Security is an illusion, and you WILL want someone to care for you. I know that if not for the support of my spouse and kids, I would be dead.
The temple sponsoring the refugees show that religion doesn't have to be a hateful crock and little Alex....that is love, my friends, in its purest form.
This is bullying because it makes the Trump crowd look like a bunch of bigoted, selfish, flinthearted assholes. The fact that they are indeed bigoted, selfish, flinthearted assholes is irrelevant.
I don't know where you are, but in Oregon one of the largest groups is IRCO and you can find them here https://www.irco.org/. It really is a local partnership with the Feds (which is why states like Texas couldn't block the President's efforts to expand the number of Syrian refugees) so there is likely something similar in your area.
There are lots of local and regional groups that do excellent work and could always use some help. Look up organizations in your area or city. I know some Ohio ones, if you happen to live in the Heart of it All.
Thank you for reporting on the fate of the parents of the boy in the photo. I was wondering about that and hadn't happened to see anything about it. I have a child the age of the one in the photo.
"Deplorable" seems incredibly inadequate to describe the type of people who support Trump the most.
*sniff, sniff*
Damn allergies!

OT: Here's a short list of Trump's favorite lies.

How can this be? Trump tells me that Americans are manly, Rambo-esque action figures, who cower in fear at the thought of the other.
Ragweed, must be. I can't even scroll back up.

No, YOU'RE crying from that video. My tissues are just wet because it's so humid on Long Island. Yeah, that's the ticket.
Also, it's kind of depressing how much I needed to be reminded that good people still exist in this world, but very uplifting to get that reminder.

Oh, so am I!
Love Eli's post (and if you aren't listening to God Awful Movies (on which he is a host), why aren't you?)
