The greatest moral inversion of our time is the belief that radical islamic terrorists funded by theocratic regimes and/or billionaires are the oppressed; and survivors of the Holocaust are the oppressors.

It's nice that I have another reason not to listen to Ed Sheeran. I mean, other than the fact that he sucks.

Antifa Commander's avatar

He said war is bad, what do you want? Him to do something about it?

Caepan's avatar

Yeah, it's not like he could write a song criticizing war. I mean, nobody's ever done that!

“You know, instead of [Ed] telling them [the stadium owners] to fuck off and playing other venues instead.”

What other venues? This is a stadium tour, which is going on right now, for which hundreds of thousands of tickets have been sold. Are there other stadiums in the same cities available right now? I don’t think so.

Sorry not sorry, but I don’t actually blame Sheeran for this. I do blame Kraft and the other billionaire stadium owners.

Meccalopolis's avatar

He should have called their bluff and gone scorched earth. These stadiums are losing a lot of money.

CzechJournalists's avatar

i feel like there should be more options given cities' proclivity for building shiny new facilities for their sportsball teams so often. i still have to go past the damned Alamodome sometimes.

The song "Hind's Hall", which Macklemore performed, is his most famous recent work. It was released in 2024 and is a protest song in support of the campus protests for Palestine. It is strange to think that nobody involved in planning this concert thought he would perform it (apparently it went to number 3 and number 7 in the US digital song sales charts https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hind%27s_Hall#Charts) or talk about Palestine.

Netanyahu doesn't have many friends either. Fellow criminals don't count.

As we all know the way to free Palestine is to get mad at random celebrities and Jews in the diaspora. Addressing anything related to the Israeli Palestinian conflict is not needed, in fact discussing the history of the conflict is anti-Palestinian and should be avoided at all costs. And don't ever explain what "intifada" really means. Or "from the river to the sea, Palestine shall be Arab."

Reader's avatar

Lol. What I meant about you being a liar is like what you just wrote. It's shall be free, not shall be Arab. And you know that. And you're a liar who hates Jews and stands behind false ideology, as if you're not utterly aware that Palestine had Jews, Arabs, AND Christians all living side by side for how long? You know how long.

SkeptiKC's avatar

"All form, no substance" has become the foundation of far too damned much in the way of deadly and destructive as of late.

Tza's avatar

It's "fun" watching the Free Palestine movement find more and more things to do that have no real impact on Palestine.

But then again they were dumb enough to help get Trump reelected with their "Genocide Joe/Killer Kamala" bull so "helping real Palestinians" hasn't really been the aim for a while now. It's more about finding out who is OK to attack and hate.

Hot Fucking DAMN! The Irish aren't fucking around. The president of Ireland practically spanked the Fucktater when he made his ill-advised trip. Not to mention the thousands upon thousands of Irish that told him politely he's a "C87t" and "go home you fucking c87t we don't want you here" and so on and so fouth. AND THOSE BALLOONS!! Well that was the chef's kiss of telling the fuck to fuck all the way the fuck off. Paul is of Irish decent - like 100% Irish *sighs*...How I do love that fact about him.

"Irish President Catherine Connolly delivered a sharp message about the unacceptability of war and genocide to U.S. President Donald Trump during their meeting in Dublin on September 12, 2026"

I don't know how to put the picture here of the orc leaving the meeting. Is really good.

Also, I didn't see anything on the news about this.

Those of us of Irish descent and aware of the history that involves have NO patience with pricks like America's fascist POTUS.

As I posted here a couple of days ago I am DAMNED proud to be of almost entirely Irish descent.

Daniel's avatar

Sorry, Skepti. That previous reply I made wasn't meant to sound confrontational or owt, but reading it back I can see it might have. I was just letting you know that the pudding man that's being rejected is being rejected by those he sees as his own.

You know Ed Sheeran claims to be Irish too?

Can’t recall any of Sheeran’s songs, but for some reason I lump him in the same group as Daniel “Had a Bad Day” Powter and James “You’re Beautiful” Blunt.

Daniel's avatar

Similar in vibe, but at least Blunt had the self-awareness to acknowledge his music is pap but very lucrative pap.

Related, Rep. Jasmine Crockett awarded Chris Brown, whose domestic violence record is as long as my arm and as recent as this year, a congressional record recognition. I think the right person won the Texas Senate Dem nomination.

Seriously, when the fuck did "separate the art from the artist" and "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" become ethical escape hatches for total moral surrender? And not just for your groceries or your paycheck, but for your *entertainment* choices.

The Seattle Mariners used Macklemore's Can't Hold Us as their 7th inning stretch song for a while (he's a Seattle boy) but killed it when some took exception to something he said..

“Haaretz reported last week that Netanyahu himself was warned specifically about the October 7 attack in advance — with much, much more specificity than was already known — and that Hamas had immediately offered to return the hostages in exchange for beginning talks that would have been mediated by Qatar”

If Bibi wins reelection in October, Israel will be a totally lost cause.

Also this ignores that concert goers were complaining on social media and demanding refunds. This isn't some "oh the owners are evil Jews who shut it down"situation. People who went to the concert were upset that they went to what they thought would be a chill concert and their families had to look at war imagery. Because there was zero fucking warning he was going to do this.

But then Macklemore's just the latest antisemitic celebrity to find out if he tacks "free Palestine" onto his antisemitism suddenly all is forgiven and he gets a ton of attention. I'm sure the children of Gaza oppressed by Hamas & being turned into child soldiers this very moment are so thrilled he is using them to make money and get attention while driving Jew hatred. Truly he is going to solve the conflict this way.

Shallow state's avatar

"We had to destroy the children to save them" was almost word for word policy for Viet Nam's villages. I hear it didn't work there.

Celebrity culture is never going to produce the outcomes that are necessary for a decent human condition. It's pretty straightforward to work out why.

You are a broken record defending genocide, aren't you? You also lie, mislead, that sort of thing. Netanyahu and Israeli government's behavior committing genocide is both gross and reprehensible. Just like Donald Trump and American government's behavior funding it is gross and reprehensible. I'm American. I'm not gross and reprehensible bc of the actions of my govt. Neither are Jews for the actions of Israel's. Unless they approve. In which case, they're disgusting. Not bc they celebrate three thousand years of beautiful tradition from Moses to Sandy Koufax, but bc they have no morals.

See how it works?

Tza's avatar

Urban warfare is not genocide. And the war could've stopped it anytime if Hamas gave back the hostages.

They didn't because they want more dead Palestinians. And yet people have decided that we should in fact support them because clearly they are heroic freedom fighters against the evil Jews

Reader's avatar

There's no war in Palestine, urban or otherwise. There's Israel's govt being as grotesque as the Nazis ever were.

CzechJournalists's avatar

people going to a concert and getting upset over something an opening act did isn't very relatable to me.

Tza's avatar

OK cool. They spent money on it and were upset and wanted refunds. Unless you've decided consumers asking for refunds is anti-Palestinian now?

CzechJournalists's avatar

they spent money to see the headliner. opening acts are just something happening while you're waiting for your drugs to kick in.

Tza's avatar

I'm in can we really say Macklemore supports Palestinians when he agreed to work at venues owned by Robert Kraft?

Carstonio's avatar

Didn’t see anything antisemitic in the statement quoted in Robyn’s post.

Tza's avatar

Again I ain't givin’ happy merchant boy the benefit of the doubt. He's doing this for attention and doesn't care if he's stirring up resentment against Jews. Because guess what he can say “oh I don't care about you non-Israel Jews” But we're the ones who get attacked when guys like him start stirring people up.

But I'm sure his antisemitism will save Gaza any day now! Maybe we just need to get another synagogue fire bombed?

Carstonio's avatar

Without knowing what he has said elsewhere, I think it’s a mistake to claim, or imply, that anyone who criticizes Israel’s treatment of Palestinians is stirring up resentment of Jews. The vast majority of American antisemites are right-wing evangelical Christians who fetishize Israel while using dog whistles like “globalists” and “cultural Marxism” and (from Laura Ingraham) “anti-Christian entertainment elite.” Those right-wingers are the ones claiming that campus protesters were all Muslims and progressive Gentiles, despite the huge numbers of progressive Jews also protesting.

Tza's avatar

I mean he literally declared this happened because Jews controlled the media but go off I guess

Reader's avatar

No he didn't. Another lie.

Carstonio's avatar

And it’s fair to criticize him on that basis. My point is 1) that wasn’t in the statement Robyn quoted and 2) millions of critics of Netanyahu’s brutal policy rightly reject the myth of Jewish-controlled media.

Tza's avatar

And other millions in that movement are happy they can be antisemitic in public again. Frankly “Free Palestine” stopped being about Palestinians a loooong time ago. Notice they never care about freeing it from Hamas, who actually rule Gaza? Or how they helped get Trump reelected via their “Genocide Joe/Killer Kamala” bullshit while actual Palestinians begged to prevent Trump from returning to power? They lost the benefit if the doubt Nov 2024 if not sooner.

You're the only person here stirring up resentment against Jews. Jfc.
