I was a fan of PJ since they opened for Dinosaur Jr/Nirvana at a show in Portland OR. as 'Mookie Blaylock' at a concert venue where I worked over 30 years ago. That was before their first CD and before they had even chosen the name Pearl Jam. I have seen them more than any other band - at least 10 times... Having said this, I haven't listened to PJ in over a decade. They're no longer relevant and Eddie Vedder's pretentious virtue signaling pueility is pathetic.

I don't give a fuck about Eddie Vedder's opinions on anything - or some NFL meathead making a commencement address at a Catholic University... I fucking despise opinion-pimps. Especially nitwits that think opinions mean something... Like Eddie.

Opinions are inherently fallacious product of Language. Opinion is not Logic. Logic is not opinion. Opinion is moot-point.

At least the Footballer was speaking to his audience in the manner he was engaged to do so.

Eddie Vedder wasn't. He was moral grandstanding & virtue-signaling to people who came to hear music not vapid political bullshit!

Eddie Vedder's pretentious virtue-signaling opinion-pimping is why I won't ever go to a show again. I'm sick of his stupid opinions and virtue-signaling at shows. Fuck him and his politics!

I don't give a fuck how any ordinary person has allowed themselves to be politically indoctrinated - politics is for unintelligent meatheads of Logic and Reason - Left & Right! Statists are cowardly pusillanimous, intellectually-lazy, arrogantly-ignorant, pseudo-intellectual idiots, incapable of thinking for themselves.

"Butker also profusely praised his wife during the speech as an amazing person who helped elevate his life."

If I say my dog is amazing and has elevated my life, does that mean I think my dog is my equal?

What did Butker say to suggest that he doesn't believe women are equal?

Poor Outkick guy. I guess we can add equal to the very very very long list of words conservatives just do not understand.

Ta, Evan. Butker needs a good kicking, IMHO. And I've never seen Heaton, apart from The Path to 9/11.

As someone who has a pussy, I wish he'd chosen a different insult.

But - fair. Butker is trash. Isn't it always the guys who are the most insecure, who are shouting the most about their manliness?

If it helps any, pussy -as it is used here- is derived from pusillanimous and is not actually a gendered slur.

Yeah, it is an ongoing problem that the worst insult most men can think of to call another man is that they're like a woman.

It's hard to say that Patricia Heaton actually "defended" anything more than Butker's right to say something - she didn't address the content of his comments at all ( at least not in the linked article )

Someone who objects to even the "rhythm method" is a lunatic out of the 14th century

I for one am getting a little tired of the Free Speech warriors hiding behind Free Speech to support these fuckers. Because that is precisely what they are doing.

Yes, he has a right to say it and was not arrested.

But we all have the right to call them out also.

I've noticed that zero patriarch enthusiasts have opined on how many kids they are eager to pay for. Well, I supposed Elon Musk, who has all the money in the world. But the average guy? Most of them seem more enthusiasm for their wives to earn money, too.

Yes, to earn money too... while still maintaining their house in orderly and clean perfection, and bake bread from scratch, and raising their children to be future Ivy League doctors & hedge fund managers despite also strictly denying their kids from learning any useful science that might conflict with the most obtuse interpretation of the bible, and ALSO want to have sex everyday with her man-child husband who operates as an overgrown toddler with no ability to take on a single household responsibility or find an ounce of emotional self regulation.

What a recipe for everyone to be deeply disappointed.

I read part of his screed, coupla paragraphs, all I could get thru. One thing that comes thru loud and clear is his devotion to the Catholic religion. Not the Christian religion, but specifically Catholicism.

If, gods forbid, the religious nutjobs continue to gain power in this country, the funnest part will be watching them tear each other apart for Christianing wrong. One of the main reasons they tried to keep religion out of government was that Europe had just had centuries of wars over which brand of Christianity should rule. Why not try that again!

Every conservative Christian in a position of true power in Washington is Catholic, fully on board with a theocracy.

Can you imagine the looks on all those Southern Baptist congressassholes' faces when they realize, in the middle of celebrating the creation of the theocracy, that it's a papist theocracy?

Vedder stated that being pro-family is helping out and sharing responsibilities. Being a man doesn't require your spouse to be your servant just because you have no self-confidence, i.e. a pussy.

“There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman,”

I like Vedder a lot and I expect that the point has been made elsewhere in thread but it always bugs me a bit using ‘pussy’ as something derogatory...

... a lot of us were born through one and it somehow stretched enough to accommodate our football sized body and especially our almost impractically for such purposes swollen skull. I figure a little respect is due.

... dunno I want to prescribe an alternative term of derision. But there are so very very many that fit here.

"Pussy'" in this context is short for the word 'Pusillanimous' and has nothing whatsoever to do with the Vagina.

I had this conversation with my boyfriend last night. I stopped using pussy as a derogatory term about 15 years ago after it was pointed out to me that it's anything but. I coined the phrase "untuck your junk" to replace it but it never quite took off. Maybe now is it's time to shine!

Pretty much anything that equates lack of masculinity with something feminine falls short. Stuff like pussy or pretty princess or delicate flower. Even snowflake. I think maybe just referring to the person exhibiting these qualities as a “Young Republican” might get your point across while only disparaging those you meant to.

Expand full comment
fair_n_hite_451's avatar

snowflake isn't feminine is origin. It's the audience being insulted that has made it a stand-in for "girlie instead of manly man".

It's a weather-based insult ... about how said person melts when the action heats up. Feel free to continue using it to describe those pathetic right wing manbabies

Snowflake was a term of endearment an old boyfriend of mine had for me and I'm very sad it's been propagated by the right. It was mine first, dammit!

My father, a physician was very precise about language. He taught me to refer to a totally useless man as a "chancre" rather than a prick, which is actually a useful bit of anatomy. I will suggest "cohn" in remembrance of Donnie's buddy Roy Cohn. If there were a slang term for endometriosis, I'd suggest that.
