Five hundredmillionAmerican bucks , chiseled out ofyourass, and “loaned” to aSouth African billionairewho’s building anall-electric luxury carand… it worked? Looks like it ! OK, yes, this is Tesla’s first quarterly profit in ten years. And yes, it’s not clear whether Tesla CEO Elon Musk is an actual
Unless you have a fork lift in your garage, "swapping" a pair of 1200-lb batteries will be a bit of work.
Quick charging 60 kWh is also a bit of a challenge. A 60-kilowatt power source can do it in an hour ... if you have one. That's enough to power 15 electric stoves at once.
I did a very brief contract job for Tesla because they having trouble with their USB port. When I asked for a Roadster to do my testing they just laughed at me. Cheap bastards.
This is why there is an Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite.
EDIT: Also, CR's ratings of cars are based exclusively on performance on the test track (as I recall, anyhow). They will tell you about things like gas mileage (or recharge time) and projected reliability, but those things go into their recommendations.
If you've got 440V service, that's not really a lot of amps, but with residential 220V / 200A service, you're looking at a few hours.
Solyndra pisses me off. I'm completely in favor of the idea that the gummint should do a little strategic subsidizing of technology, LIKE IT HAS FOR THE LAST SIXTY YEARS (excuse me); but this was not well executed.
I spent my life in tech in Silicon Valley. NOBODY ever started out with acres of building in Fremont.
I appreciate that trying to re-establish a manufacturing presence in the US was gonna require a large investment, but you have to do a medium-scale demonstration first to determine if the full-scale deployment has a chance.
Fucking optimists. The real reason Solyndra pisses me off is that its very expensive failure has probably poisoned the well for intelligent government tech investment in the near future.
Love the specs: "Horn. Beep. Beep."
Must see.
I hope they make a version that has a sound like when you put a card in the spokes of your bicycle.

I've heard if you throw them on a hot pan, little worms will start wiggling out of them to escape the heat...

I'm confused - I thought Tesla was the electric car company that didn't get Federal funds.
Of course, my only source for news is the FoxPAC.
Are you sure it's the band "Cheap Trick?"
I mean, could it be possible they meant it as a descriptive biographic subtitle of his overall wingnut whoredom, just so people are clear?

If fucking Nikolai were still alive, he'd have figured out how to electrocute Kandahar by now.
Elon is a bit of a weirdo, but comparing him to Henry Ford is a stretch.
Apparently I'm old, because I'd rather have a Tesla.
Hey, it's not rocket science ... oh, wait/
