for me my story was when I was 5-6 and living with my grandmother and great-grandmother in Ft. Wort. She had a black lady who "did" for her, and made my lunch for 1st grade (this was in about 1959-1960 or so (yeah I am old as fuck, pipe down you kids!) and for the first time at school someone told me what a "n***r" was. when i went home one afternoon I asked her if she was one...she diverted me but I saw the pain in her eyes and have never said that word to anyone since. so yeah kids DO have some sense beyond themselves and have some empathy...someday I will tell y'all the story of why I got expelled from kindergarten ;p
The Nestle boycott began when I was a little shy of 7. That Halloween I refused to accept any of their candy and lectured all my adult neighbors about why. And while I was a little fuzzy on the details (I thought they were literally killing babies by selling rotten milk), I am still in alignment with my 7 y.o. self.
I haven't told my not-quite-four-year old about them because she'd understand too readily. Her biggest fear is being separated from me and my husband. She would understand it viscerally. And I don't know if she'd be able to not imagine herself in that position. She wouldn't understand any of the details about where it's happening or why, but children kept from their parents? That's almost any child's nightmare.
And, well, I work on lifting the blinders of privilege on my kids when opportunity arises. But I'm not ready for that yet.
My CCD (Catholic Sunday School, for those of you fortunate enough not to have gone) teacher complained to my mother that I was constantly asking questions (nine-year-old me basically rejected the Virgin Birth out of hand). Mother's response: "Are you sure your problem is her asking questions and not your inability to answer them?"

it is always a bad idea to read the source "documents" of a religion, you will be cast out and sometimes stoned to death for your trouble...

I'll guarantee she understands how she'd feel if she was separated from her parents and put in a cage with scary mean people in authority over her.

Never did get confirmed.
Nope.
We need somebody in the pipeline after President Ocasio-Cortez.
Maybe I was.
I have many opinions about Tulsi Gabbard, but I choose to summarize them as "present."
