I'm surprised the fathead hasn't whined about how the Treasury won't outsource the printing of money to the private sector.

And the portions are so small.

FWIW, I'd interpret that as 0.71% for risk on non-government checks, and 1.5% for, you know, operating expenses (rent, salaries, insurance, etc). Also, of course, advertising and profit.

One could argue that 1.5% is too much, but they do have to charge something.

I saw one that had an interest rate of 600 %, light years beyond usury. Borrow 2000.00. 600%*2000.00. Do the math - it's horrendous. If you can't pay it off right away, you will be paying 600 times what you borrowed. I get the blah blah blah we are taking the risk by lending these people money so blah blah blah who else will lend them money with that much risk blah, but 600%? Seriously?

Now if we can just keep Darrell Issa from shutting down the postal service entirely.

Here in socialist France, where many, many things grind to a slow crawl thanks to bureaucracy and a "I'll get to it later" attitude by a decent percentage of the workforce, they've STILL managed to implement post office banks quite successfully. So, if they can do it, I think USPS is fully capable.

Listen, Elizabeth. If you close up payday loan shops, it just means that these people will then begin to fleece the poorz in new and unexpected ways! Which will probably be worse and even more larcenous and shameful! "Better the Devil you know," as they say!

So, Elizabeth Warren, WHY DO YOU HATE THE POORZ SO MUCH!?

I'm expecting this argument to appear somewhere in The Wingnut Press, should her proposal start to get real traction.

" US Postal Service partner with banks "

Might as well...the banks are already partnering with the payday loan companies.

Corporate cleverness at its best. And they act so suprised and accuse the people of ingratitude when they form mobs called labor unions.

One group that relies heavily on payday (and, sometimes, "pink slip") loans is the U.S. Military. In states where these blood-suckers can get away with it, look at the number of such establishments camped around military bases like vultures roosting on a dead buffalo.
