As long as I can get news from Ukraine, I will go there, but it has no other value to me. And Elon Musk is ridiculous.

A right-wing billionaire with control of a huge media platform. Just what we need to complete the destruction of American Democracy.

You know, properly prescribed meds are a good thing. He should try them.

Doesn't work. Nobody remembers Hatler, Hetler, or Hotler after I went through all that effort to travel back in time and kill them to prevent their mass genocides. Each time it got worse. The time-travellers cooperation eventually told me to knock it off, I was just making things worse.

The McLaren story only lacked the preface of "hold my beer and..." Nothing we rubes like better than hearing how some rich asshole destroyed something that costs more than our yearly salary for his own amusement.

One years salary? Only if you make in excess of $1 million......

My biggest gripe with it wasn't even tweeter itself, it was all the retweets here where I would have to click through tweeter to reach the source link, so I didn't click. Now, even less reason to click, so #winning?

Fred's avatar

I don't tweet. I can live without EVER HAVING TWEETED.

Musk: Hey guys, what do you think of this?

Advertisers, aka The Actual Source of Xitter's Profits: That sucks. If you do that, we're leaving.

Musk: Well fuck you it's happening!

Sigh. I am often on Sand Hill Road. There's a long section of the road with buildings full of VC groups. I swear you can smell the sulphur. And you can see Stanford's Hoover Tower from there, if you enjoy a vista of privilege.

Never mind that one thing that made Twitter so useful was that if you wanted to share a news link, a Twitter link to it would populate with all the info you’d need to know if you wanted to click or not.

I'm getting a real "Miles Bron" vibe from Phony Stark here

what an opportunity for a better world was wasted when those two survived Elno's little stunt.

I don’t know about “eradicate” maybe more just make them more accountable to the laws we all follow. And make them pay their fair share in taxes. And make it so only individual voters can donate a finite amount to political entities.. And recognize a public forum like Twitter for what it is, rather than having it be owned and wrecked by capitalism turning jt into a vehicle for profit, or in Elon’s case I guess, letting some Apartheid trust fund baby turn it into a burning nazi playground. Easy.

Ta, Evan. One must imagine the following line spoken to Elon in Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice: Now get your ass to Mars.

I am increasingly suspicious I’m living in a particularly broad and unsubtle satire written by a first year theatre student high out of their mind on something even Portugal won’t decriminalise.

I term it as "an unusually annoying 1970s French experimental film."

Speaking of weird French films. Have you seen Fumer Fait Tousser? (Smoking Causes Coughing). It did absurdism really well without leaning too much into one type of weirdness.

I'm so pissed Zuck couldn't make Threads a decent enough product that X hellscape could die.

Colbert Thorenson's avatar

I say give it time. If not a great product, Zuck knows he has huge market share and the certainty of Musk f'ing up twitter on his side. I think he will eventually have us all using it.

insert_something_creative's avatar

For me personally, threads doesn't really meet my need (and maybe others) needs. Twitter is the one social media app where my followers/follows are not people I know IRL. I get why they did it (huge market share), but tying threads to instagram may not have been the best call.

The New Yorker piece was really interesting- the part that Evan pulled out about the Maclaren(sp?!) episode is one of many head scratchers. He enjoyed lingering on the part where the action endangered his life, not taking into account that it endangered an innocent passenger, in the process. Wow.

mzf's avatar

Don't forget how Elmo insisted on using his specialized submarine to rescue the kids in the Thai cave no matter how it endangered them; or anyone else involved.

Also too while calling the adults with the kids a pedophile if memory serves.

When referring to Peter Thiel as "an innocent passenger", the adjective innocent is doing a LOT of heavy lifting.
