"First, we will change the law in Spain to hold platform executives legally accountable for many infringements taking place on their sites.

Second, we will turn algorithmic manipulation and amplification of illegal content into a new criminal offense.

Third, we will implement a hate and polarization footprint system to track, quantify, and expose how digital platforms fuel division and amplify hate.

Fourth, Spain will ban access to social media for minors under the age of 16. Platforms will be required to implement effective age verification systems — not just checkboxes, but real barriers that work.

Fifth and last, my government will work with our public prosecutor to investigate and pursue the infringement committed by Grok, TikTok, and Instagram."

fuck...America needs this dude...

Pedro is WAYYYYY hot...damn...I had no idea

Queen Méabh's avatar

When I first read about Pedro's immigration regularization proposal, my very first thought was "This is Spain's apology for 1492."

In March 1492 King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella expelled all the Jews from Spain, with estimates of the number of people expelled varying from 40,000 to 800,000 - which dealt a crushing blow to the Spanish economy. It triggered significant economic decline, diminished the skilled middle class, and created long-term financial deficits which lasted for centuries. It also caused a loss of intellectual, commercial, and professional talent, leading to social disruption.

But that was then, and this is now, and Pedro is doing the right thing.

BTW, if "the largest number of undocumented migrants, by far, is from Latin America" then those folks almost certainly have a Spanish ancestor somewhere in their family tree.

And, and, it appears that there is mass white man political assault going on. Hegseth is firing qualified, efficient, intelligent military leaders in the middle of a war. The Navy Secretary, two generals, and US Army Chief of Staff. And now heggie and trumpy are wondering why they are incapable of ending this vanity war. Why won't Iran listen to their threats? Also of note, troops are not getting food because apparently the infrastructure to support troops has been decimated.

Oh yeah.

Pope Scipio Newburyporticus's avatar

The Navy Secretary was just a political donor. He was useless. Unfortunately the new guy is a cristofascist, apparently.

Not just that, he's mentally ill, to a dangerous degree

I'm beginning to think that mentally ill, or addicted, is a job requirement in the current administration

We're at the stage where RumpledOrangeSkin is making up stories out of thin air. Iran is laughing at him. He has personally saved due to all the respect Iran has for his presidency, 8 AI generated women. Women if they had been real may well have gotten blown up by one of our bombs. The stupidity is overwhelming.

On another forum earlier today I saw a post where somebody explicitly said a defining characteristic of Cluster B personality disorders is a total lack of empathy for anyone but themselves. This is why you have to hug your kids, and mean it.

I place 20 Quatloos on whichever reporter tries his best to get Bill-O to eat those words. Because I’m an old, but he’s older, and most of the people in that room would spank him.

Gosh, I'm not gonna be there. But if I were: "Bill, fuck it - let's do it live!...

Ooh, but Jake Tapper is going to wear a 1st Amendment pocket square, y’all!

>>Tapper and a number of other reporters plan to wear accessories displaying their First Amendment right to Saturday’s event. The pocket square, which Tapper gifted to Colbert, read, “Congress Shall Make No Law Abridging The Freedom of Speech or of the Press.”<<

I dearly hope Colbert told Tapper to shove that fucking pocket square so far up his ass it would come out his nose.

You misspelled "pedantic asshole," darling. But I'll allow it.

Bill thinks WE (meaning Democrats) must respect the Presidency at the correspondent's dinner. It doesn't mean HE (meaning Republicans) have to follow the same rules. That's just how it is done. And WTF is Bill O'Creepy Sex Pest being invited for? Talk about a has been. Also, too, you shouldn't worry Bill, nobody is going to be watching.

Billo looks withered and old. Bless it, but that's what evil does to a body.

Fun fact: Paul Rudd is 17 years *older* than Stephen Miller. Just to prove your point.

The far right often uses words in ways that mangle their meanings. It's the only way to make their world views make any sense in their context. When they say treason, they don't mean overt acts to overthrow the government. They mean somethin like "treachery", a violation of allegiance.

OT: my friend gave me some Pinconning cheese, which is the kind of "guvment cheese" we used to get as a child. Because I'm prepping for a colonoscopy (ick), I can only eat white bread. So, I made a sandwich with cheese and salami. Talk about a trip back through time!...

This came from Plath's Meats in Rogers City, one of three sausage making places over a hundred years old in that town of 2000. I think it had to do with the number of sailors that ported out of there, and some still do. But Plath's deserves to be world famous...

I used to love the government cheese (it's been forever since I had it).

EyeQueue's avatar

When I was in like 6th grade my uncle lived with us. He was a disabled veteran who was schizophrenic and he received the government food box back then and it included the velveeta-like cheese that my mom would make grilled cheese sandwiches from.

Toomush Expectashuns's avatar

I'm not sure if there was a different cheese in the south, but in Minnesota, we would get big slabs of this cheese. I had no idea what it was until my ex UAW lawyer friend picked up a big slab from Pinconning on his way back up to Cheboygan!...
