Nothing to see here, folks. Just your routine, scheduled hospital visit on Memorial Day.

I am anxiously awaiting the hospital visit from which the Fetid Fascist is discharged to the morgue.

A reminder of why the world is what it is. I just got done watching Pale Rider, which is a fairly well regarded western from the 80s. Clint Eastwood arrives, saves independent miners from an asshole who owns pretty much the whole county and his paid for lawmen, was probably already killed once before by those lawmen, rides away again. Good, entertaining stuff.

Except he shows up because a 14 year old girl prays for vengeance, and both her and her mother fall in love with then mid-50s Clint Eastwood. Nothing happens, because Clint is a sexless revenant in this film, but it still adds a level of creep that everyone just passed off as "Hey, she's almost 15, and it's the late 1800s."

β€œOil plummets…”. Sure Jan, I mean Forbes.

<The global oil benchmark Brent Crude Futures fell to $98.60 per barrel on Monday morning, down nearly $5 compared to the end of last week. The U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate also fell more than $4.50 cents to $91.95 per barrel.>

Saviour of Bread's avatar

Nearly five dollars? Or 4%. Yeah, plummets.

PrimerGray's avatar

If it was 10%, I’d accept the phrasing.

MRK's avatar

Some of it is getting out of the Strait, I think, because some shippers are paying Iran. Also the market will sometimes remember that a lot of oil never moves through there at all.

It will never go back to what it was before Trump started this war, however, because moving through the Strait will never be as easy and cheap as it once was.

It must be that all the solar panels are attracting the sunlight, and the wind turbines are stealing all the cooling breezes.

Bring back coal.

A new UK daily temperature record for spring and May has been provisionally broken, with 34.8Β°C reached at Kew Gardens today.

The figure is the highest daily maximum temperature recorded in meteorological spring (March, April and May), as well as the highest temperature in May.

I thought wind turbines generated the wind, or did Ali G lie to me?

The website https://findablackdoctor.com , which helps patients who want a black doctor find one near them, is being sued by a conservative legal group "Do No Harm," known for suing any medical providers whom they think are woke.

EyeQueue's avatar

M. was talking about this earlier.

SkeptiKC's avatar

Do No Harm is clearly a gross as well as thoroughly offensive misnomer.

I have NO patience with bigots, dammit.

ManchuCandidate's avatar

Can't say I blame them. Wasn't there a study involving white docs misdiagnosing black patients more than white patients? Same for male docs misdiagnosing female patients?

Saviour of Bread's avatar

Yep, and not just poor Black patients. Serena Williams nearly died giving birth because no one listened to her.

Militant Agnostic's avatar

Haven't seen that one, but I have seen studies that show black hospital patients have better outcomes if they have black nurses than if they have white nurses.

SkeptiKC's avatar

This white retired RN has witnessed THIS to be the absolute truth. When I was the charge nurse I also kept that in mind and assigned patients to the nurses on duty accordingly.

It MATTERS.

Just a reminder that Biden and the Democrats wouldn’t even consider killing the filibuster or expanding the SCOTUS because it went against civility and norms.

Mr blob's avatar

I think what actually happened

CBS were at least partially behind the financing of the final Michigan episode. It was clearly made with the assistance of his writing staff and it cost money to fly celebs out there. It was bootlegged all over the place on YouTube, and there was an official version on Colbert’s page. Only the bootlegs got takedown notices

***not defending in any way, just feel like basic reality is always getting lost in the chaos now

Monsieur Grumpe's avatar

A lot of people posting on Youtube are being hit hit with frivolous copyright infringement strikes. If they get enough strikes they are permanently removed from Youtube. I got one from Disney claiming they owned a video clip of a cloud I had posted. The clip was listed as public domain. I edited the video to remove it. One strike against me.

I'd like to share a memory that is very dear to me. I just read that Star Wars hit theaters on this date in 1977. I was a 20-year-old college student and had just returned home for the summer. My dad and I were serious science fiction idiots and dad wanted to go see the movie. Mom, on the other hand, wanted nothing more than for the two of us to get the hell out of the house and just GO! She was sick of hearing us talk about nothing else. Star Wars was going to be AWESOME! I can't say that I blamed her. Dad and I went, and it was everything we had hoped for and more. Dad called it the best space cowboy movie ever made (at that time it was the only space cowboy movie ever made). Dad, being a navy pilot, was absolutely in love with the Millennium Falcon and Star Fighters. They danced like sugarplums in his dreams for the rest of his life. We had so many one-liners we stole from the movie and used them all the time which annoyed mom. We loved to see if we could get a rise outta her. Normally it worked and she'd feign irritation which delighted all of us. This is my favorite memory of my dad. It doesn't sound like much, but it was to both of us. I always remember my dad on Memorial Day with our shared love of Star Wars.

May the Force Be With Him.

EyeQueue's avatar

I remember getting to see it at the Cine Capri in Phoenix on the "Cinerama" screen.

My mom insisted that she see it before I did b/c she was a hippy and didn't want me to see any violence. I almost didn't get to see it at all. I was like 6 or 7.

ETA: And thank you for sharing the memory with your dad. My dad was also super into it and he took me out of school one day after we saw the movie to go to Tower Records and meet "Darth Vader." R2D2 and C3P0 were also there, too. I had my picture taken with Darth Vader and it's probably around here somewhere.

I think he snuck me out of school to do that. XD Fathers are special. <3 <3 <3 <3

Me and my brother played hooky and waited 3 hours in line to see it on the first day.

I remember when I was 5 years old my dad, who loved sci fi films like Forbidden Planet, coming home from seeing Star Wars for the first time and saying β€œI just saw the most incredible film ever made.” Took me to see it the next day.
