Drowning is underrated.

She's channeling the ghost of Erik Loomis. Which is impressive, given that he still lives. As far as we know.

I believe the request / rule here is, save the OT stuff for the morning tabs or the open thread.

I know, it's frustrating, but I see the value of the rule, and anyway guests should abide by rules. Many's the day where I keep a lot of tabs open, and when I see there's an open thread I dump the contents of those tabs.

I remember this well. The strike happened around the time my family moved to Jay. Shortly after, my dad was hired by the town of Jay to be their Environmental Code Enforcement Officer, a position which he held through the late 90s. He was always meeting with paper company officials, and he had monitoring stations set up on the river below the mill to monitor dioxin levels. I remember that my dad painted a cartoon of Snoopy with a pair of binoculars on the side of the building. The efforts of the town of Jay during that time led to a substantial improvement of water quality in the Androscoggin River, which is nice because I live downstream from there now. They were able to gain major concessions on wastewater discharge that we continue to benefit from. This article hits the nail on the head with what I understand to be IP's constant resistance to everything and the unfortunate state of the union there, but I also remember this time as something that my dad was actually able to get involved with and help the situation. So there's that.

My hours don't work well with the rules. I try but sometimes I want to say a thing and my wants will normally override rules even when I know it's the wrong thing to do.

Also too, I've been banned lots of times but never for being OT. It's not hard to scroll past it if you're in a heated discussion about the topic at hand.

And I miss my mom.

I can see that. I'm just a supporter of the rules, and more generally the management's right to impose rules. I don't always like how they play out, and I've had posts deleted for (what seem to me) capricious reasons, as well as seen people banned for reasons that are IMHO completely unworthy. But, I don't run this place, so it's not mine to adjudicate.

I mean if someone sees fit to delete it then I don't have a problem with.

Particularly when you consider half of everyone has me blocked and half of everyone else has told me pretty clearly they scroll past my posts because I'm tedious and bore them.

So anything I post is only read by two people at most anyway.

"...on February 5 ... two scabs made some fundamental safety errors that led to the nozzle of a chemical storage tank breaking off and the release of 144,000 gallons of liquid chlorine dioxide escaping. That could have caused massive fatalities if the winds were blowing the wrong way."

Didn't anyone go out into the forests and wilderness areas downwind of the accident a few days later? If they had they would have needed a shovel to move aside the dead woodland creatures they would have found there.

:>(((((

If they still found themselves aboard their private jets heading for their opulent meeting of snooty richfucks, then nothing in their cosseted existence is 'ruined'.

Also too, this topic petered out less than a dozen non-comments after my OT post.

I don't think it was me.

There are only so many ways to say someone is a big pooty head and they all got said multiple times.

At that point people get bored and move along and as far as I'm concerned anything is fair game after that.

Or just let the thread die.

Either way who really cares?

Boy howdy is this ever the wrong post on which to advocate generally for management's right to impose rules.

Andrew, I love Maine and was stationed there in 77-80, and traveling around the state the thing I remember about the mills (now down to six) was an almost toxic smell That stayed with you for many many miles away.
