I somewhat recently bought a favorite book from Jr High called Quest For The Snow Leopard and was shocked because I didn't remember how racist it was. Oh well.

OneYieldRegular's avatar

How disappointing to hear. That book caused me to become obsessed with snow leopards to the point that I worked for weeks on a painting of a snow leopard, probably the pinnacle of my high school art output (but a painting now forever lost).

Teen Laqueefa's avatar

I have many similar lost paintings (drawings) my mom threw away after I moved out. Up to that point I'd saved everything I liked and she likely chucked them all at once, not that I blame her.

OneYieldRegular's avatar

That's what happened to all of my art and writing from my time as a yout. I came home from university and found that my mother had thrown out EVERYTHING. Scores of paintings, a few dozen journals and more. Her response? "Why would you want to keep all that junk from when you were young?"

Teen Laqueefa's avatar

Sounds very similar to my situation! I made it easy for her, it was a 3 inch thick bundle of mostly newsprint about 2 x 3' bound up with string.

Go Bheri! The world absolutely needs more snow leopards.

If I was a fundraiser for a big cat project, that photo of Bheri and Big Mom Nubra would be on every piece...

Toy designers are envious of the appeal of those critters...

I practice a strict colloidal silver regimen and have been autism free my entire life!

Snowolf100's avatar

That explains the skin colour. Jaundice (yellow) + colloidal silver (blue) makes green!

Stop eating people's liver and you'll be fine.

Got an email from my eldest's middle school principal reminding parents to drop their kids off at a different spot because their usual one is being used for the election. I kind of freaked out because I didn't know there was one! So I looked it up. In my town only one ward is voting (where eldest's school is, but not our house). And they're only voting whether to grant a Sunday liquor license to one of the restaurants, lol. So for me there isn't one and I feel better for not noticing lol

Trump said he wanted to get rid of the murderers, rapist and drug traffickers with his anti-immigration policy. It's hard to argue against something like that, except that it looks like all he's doing is hauling people looking for work. It's hard to Make America Great Again when you are actively deporting it's working class.

Snowolf100's avatar

While he's getting rid of the working class he's leaving all the murderers, rapist and drug traffickers to roam free because ice have moved the resources to numbers not crimes.

Yeah hoo boy on that Epstein, JP Morgan story. Surprised the NYTimes covered it and the botched N Korea brouhaha. What happened? Did they accidentally do journalism? How ever did it sneak past the editor?

NO filming the boos to Rump networks.

WE WILL film the booing...1000's of attendees. Ha!!

I'm a finance idiot but the JPMorgan story glued me to my chair.

We'll never see the files.

Well, isn't that what you want to see from NASA, giving up a 70 year record of safety to beat the Chinese. Great, great job. These fuckers really don't care how many people have to die for their Golden Age.

Also - solar cells can work in the dark; they heat up from being in the Sun all day, and you can use the difference in temperature between the cell and the colder ambient air to generate power. But that's science, not "common sense"...

HuffPost: "Chief Justice John Roberts let President Donald Trump remove a member of Federal Trade Commission on Monday, the latest in string of high-profile firings allowed for now at the Supreme Court. Trump moved to fire Rebecca Slaughter in the spring, but lower courts ordered her reinstated after she sued because the law only allows commissioners to be removed for problems like misconduct or neglect of duty.

Monday’s order is the latest sign that the Supreme Court’s conservative majority has effectively abandoned a 90-year-old high court precedent that protected some federal agencies from arbitrary presidential action."

Cincinnatus's avatar

NYT: "The Supreme Court on Monday lifted a federal judge’s order prohibiting government agents from making indiscriminate immigration-related stops in the Los Angeles area that challengers called “blatant racial profiling.”

The court’s brief order was unsigned and gave no reasons. It is not the last word in the case, which is pending before a federal appeals court and may again reach the justices.

The court’s three liberal members dissented."

Couldn't be more depressed at the headlines, I've said Trump has to be deposed by a Revolutionary War, what other options are there?

Littorally Speaking's avatar

Violence is *exactly* what Shitler and Pee Wee Goebbels want, so no.

As for options, see Indian Independence from Britain, our own Civil Rights Movement, the Anti-War Movement of the Sixties, or the Orange Revolution in Ukraine.

Actions like mass civil disobedience and general strikes are far more effective, not to mention less bloody.

kmblue187's avatar

How’s that working out for us? I’ve taken part, but…

kmblue187's avatar

They haven’t been effective so far, and as long as the Immoral Majority backs Trump, rebellion is the only option. Look at what happened today.

Littorally Speaking's avatar

1) There hasn’t been any mass disobedience—like blocking highways or transit hubs—let alone general strikes thus far; only large protest demonstrations, which are the first step of organizing a resistance movement.

2) Shitler and MAGA has *nowhere near* support from a majority of the people in this country, and never has; only Republican fuckery (gerrymandering, purges of voter rolls, etc) and a feckless DNC has enabled them to eke out electoral “victories” at the polls.

To repeat, those advocating violence are playing right into the fascist oligarchy’s hands; it’s what they’re trying to trigger with the ICEstapo sweeps and military deployments to blue cities, because then they’d have a justification, 𝘢́ 𝘭𝘢 the burning of the Reichstag, to declare martial law nationwide.

Are you really so politically naive and ignorant of history that you can’t see that?!

kmblue187's avatar

My comment to the NYTs about "Will we follow Trump to fantasyland?"

Every day every media should have screaming headlines about how Trump is destroying our country and what we should do about it. It 's time for a Revolutionary War again, the alternative is going gently into that bad night.

NYT just now:

"A federal appeals court on Monday upheld a $83.3 million jury award against President Trump for defaming the writer E. Jean Carroll in 2019, after she accused him of a decades-old rape in a Manhattan department store — an attack for which he was separately found liable of sexual abuse. The court also rejected Mr. Trump’s argument that the Supreme Court’s decision last year affording presidential immunity for official acts barred a finding of liability in Ms. Carroll’s lawsuit."

Pexas Teat's avatar

How much interest has accrued on that judgement since 2019? I would hope it's a huge amount.
