Happy Monday, Indeed.

Fuuuuuuccckkk. Why why why can’t men control themselves!!! I am so angry and disappointed with him. I truly feel for the victims. Of course they didn’t want to speak out. 😭💔

Xavier Becerra is my pick for the primary. Our former attorney general has the best background for the job, as much as I like Porter. I hope the polls shift his direction as people make up their minds...

The CA primary is in June, so not so far off. Dems need to get their shit together and rally around a viable candidate.

Ta, Marcie. A couple more Ds should drop out. Katie Porter should take the #1 spot. Oh, and Fuck You is magnificent.

Kamala Harris has a shot. She should run as a write in.

"Now resign from the House and take that disgusting Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales with you."

Your wish was quickly granted.

"And may Donald John Trump face the same fate. Sigh."

Not so quickly granted. Sigh.

"We will never understand why men do this."

I agree most heartily. It boggles the mind that the enormous egos of some men lead them to think their penis is such a turn-on that women will swoon when sent an image of their erect member. Yuck and ick! Do they not understand that women are turned on by a toned body, not by a disembodied dick? My disappointment in Swallwell, a smart and well-spoken Democrat, and one of the only Dems who regularly talks back to Trump, is profound.

Thank god we found out about this now, and not a few weeks before the election. Toss Swalwell on the pile of Democratic disappointments, next to Fetterman, who at least isn't accused of rape.

Oh, and fuck George Clooney.

Jjamie's avatar

I am uninformed. What has Clooney done to deserve such derision? Truly asking cause I don't know

Amanda's avatar

He wrote an editorial back in July 2024 for the NYT saying that Biden should drop out of the presidential race, basically because he didn't recognize Clooney at a fundraiser quickly enough. It's widely regarded as the first in the avalanche of calls for him to drop out of the race, which he of course did.

Jjamie's avatar

Are you sure him no being recognized? Or because we all saw that vert poor debate performance? Clooney said what needed to be said. And you are mad?

Warren's avatar

And Joe Biden didn’t know he had cancer, or else he would have resigned and let Harris be the first woman President.

I thought "Swalwell" was a contraction of "swallow well".

OK, thinking through this with a cold, calculating political mind:

If Gonzalez drops out of Congress but Swalwell doesn't, numerically that's bad for the GOP. If both drop out, numerically it's a wash. And of course if the Democrats do what Democrats do, and Republicans do what Republicans do, Swalwell will resign but Gonzalez won't. So:

IF YOU'RE GOING TO RESIGN SWALWELL, UNDER ***NO*** CIRCUMSTANCES DO YOU RESIGN UNTIL GONZALEZ IS OUT THE DOOR AND CAN'T GET BACK IN.

I ***guarantee*** this is how the GOP is thinking right now.

Number next - will Californians coalesce around whomever the next-highest-ranking Democratic contender is? From what I've heard, the GOP was at spots 1 and 2 in the jungle polling, which would guarantee a Republican governor. But if a Democrat gets all or most of Swalwell's support, could that Democrat move up to 2 or 1 and be a part of the next election?

The best thing Swalwell's STAFF could do is all come out and support one particular Democratic gubernatorial candidate, although I don't know who that would be.

Jenvinculosity's avatar

I mean, we do not control congress right now so him dropping out is really not that detrimental

Robert Eckert's avatar

Things can get done if a handful of Republicans cross over (see Epstein files legislation), and sometimes it makes all the difference in the world whether "a handful" means we need two or we need three.

The margins are thin enough that every vote counts in the House. You never know who might get sick, or who might retire early, or whatever.

I hear you

(obvs 😊)

and I hope you have a chance to persuade every Californian you know

Because this isn't any kind of small-stakes situation ... with the life and health of the country

at stake

You're absolutely welcome

I feel like my whole mission between now and the primary might be to encourage people to be strategic in great part because nobody needs a Republican in that seat of power, least of all Californians

I feel like I'm being shrieked at in the sane tone of the people who hated Barack Obama for daring to run against Hillary Clinton in the 2008 primary

🙄😑😖

I'm going to say something that I never thought I'd say, and I bet it's not going to go over very well with some here:

Democrats, you've gotta support the billionaire.

Yep - Tom Steyer. First of all, he's polling at 11% (same as Swalwell was and 4 points more than Katie Porter), which is only 3 points away from the two top GOP candidates (wanna-be Hitler Chad Bianco and Fox News Nazi Steve Hilton), who are at 14% each.

Second, it's going to take a ton of money to get the Dems behind anyone and Steyer has tons of money.

The primary is June 2; there's no time to waste.

Out with ALL the abusers. All of them, I say. I say all of them, Katie! Not a single abuser in leadership…imagine that in the song, “Imagine.” Uggh. This one had presidential ambitions also too, Katie. Begone!

Bel-Ami's avatar

I agree. A person who can't put his in-the-moment wants ahead of his personal ambition has no business running one of the world's largest economies. I'm not even talking about putting the wellbeing of the citizens and residents first. Hell, I don't trust Newsom one bit, but he has been able to keep his eye on the ball. Maybe the Ds will rally behind Katie Porter and her Whiteboard of Truth now (I can HOPE). CA D's better hop to it or that very Blue state is gonna be forced to choose between two MAGAt creeps (election will be between the top two primary vote getters, regardless of party).

"M"'s avatar

If you are hoping for Katie Porter - please think strategically about the fact that there are already allegations out that she treats her staff harshly AND remember the extent to which we are a sexist country and how take-no-prisoners Republicans will push that narrative to an extreme to destroy her campaign

This 6th generation Californian no longer lives there, so my opinion is of no weight in the election. Also, I am all too aware that when women are tough and bossy, there will be people complaining that they are mean. Doesn't mean that they are any worse than a "driven" male, just that they are expected to be all sweet and nurturing. I come from a family of tough women, I am under no illusion about "how-women-are-supposed-to-be".
