Agree and as a general rule I prefer to offer food instead of cash. Once I stopped at a traffic light and a woman was standing there with a sign. I went around the block and went through a drive through and picked up some hot food. When I got back to the traffic light I offered it to her. She took it and with tears running down her face said thank you. She really seemed need it then.
I'm going to Europe in 134 days (who's counting?) and I am not looking forward to repeating my previous visits during the W years with people asking me to explain WTF George Bush? This idiot makes W look like just a bad idea and not a catastrophe for the world.

As it happens, I had brought sandwiches. So I gave him a sandwich. He then continued straightaway to ask other passersby for help to get a sandwich (which totally confused my kids), but at least I could do something.
