There was an article in the conspiracy side of the net suggesting that the New York G-men were going to come out with the anti-Hillary stuff anyway and make Comey look biased. To save himself, he came out with it first, so that his investigation into Trump would remain untainted by hint of bias.
Oh yes. The main problem with Trump? It doesn't matter how stupid he is, the GOP base is supporting him. Keeping him on under the theory he'll screw up is cutting Democrat's throats.

I'm happy that Comey is supposedly doing his job, but I'm not going to get my hopes up that anything will come of it. When Donnie falls, it won't be from a punch we saw coming; it will be over before we know what happened and we'll be saying "Where did that come from?"
The part that I enjoy about this is the sheer existential pain Comey must be suffering right now.
He KNOWS more than anyone else in the country, that everything he believes is utter bullshit. There is not a trace of evidence anywhere that Hillary is guilty or that Trump isnt a traitor, and he knows it. It's all on his desk.
