The ATF 4473 firearms purchase form refers to being “adjudicated as a mental defective” as a condition prohibiting firearms purchases.
The intent here is to make a blanket adjudication by DOJ that being transgender makes one a “mental defective”. This will allow the denial of firearms purchases, and much more.
In the past federal agencies have specified that the term should not apply to adjudications made without a hearing or based solely on a finding of disability. This action would reverse this, and open the way to the old policies of sterilization and involuntary institutionalization.
Let me note that while still in the States I was inpatient multiple times for suicidal ideation- often involving guns, because available- and yet there was nothing stopping me going to Mall Wart and buying a gun once I was released (often within a week). There wasn't even a functional system in place in my state for doctors to say "oh hey BTW maybe M. Radley should not have a gun :)", let alone an interstate system for No Guns Thanks.
Republicans were cool with that, based on their votes in state and federal legislatures. After all, the NRA is watching!
Meanwhile, I feel a hell of a lot safer on many levels down here in Australia, where they ACTUALLY banned guns in the 90s- and where they have free health care, and I no longer have massive gaps in seeing my doctors or getting my meds. Hurray!
The problem with isolating transgender people and pushing the lie that if they have a gun they’ll kill someone is this: it’s lazy, cruel, and flat-out wrong.
If you really believe that, it’s because you just crawled out of a cornfield with your cousin — using a Ponderosa buffet map as a manual for how to twist the coat hanger just right to scoop out your own brain.
Too many people seem to be missing the point. It makes no difference what you are, what you believe in, what gender you choose to identify as. All of that is nonsensical noise
This is the way those who wish to install authoritarian governments work. they first attack the least popular, smallest groups of citizens. Legally, Trans people are no different from anyone else. they are entitled to exactly the same protection under the law as anyone else. Myself, I recognize no distinctions. Your race, ethnicity, sexual preference gender identity etc, has absolutely no bearing upon your rights as an American citizen
To make this "trans gun ownership" ban a reality would require a national registry of trans people. That's the goal. When they get such a list—likely through the DOGE/Palantir collapse of the walls between different sources of government and health data—they're not going to be using it for gun control.
Ta, Robyn. The lovely transwoman who is my clinic coworker is licensed as a cosmetologist and hairdresser. I paid her to un-dread my hair, and she did a beautiful job. She's never going on a murder spree; in fact, she most likely saved the life of a visitor to the clinic who was demonstrating suicidal ideation. The only white man I trust entirely and completely is my beloved husband Meccalopolis. He earned my trust, and does all in his power to keep it.
Othering trans people is easy, because there are so fucking few. It's dangerous and must be stopped. Trans rights are human rights, period. Nothing else, nothing less will do. Ever.
In the United States, there are 400 million guns or 1.2 guns for every person, by far the highest per capita gun ownership of all of the nations of the world Of those 400 million only about 1 million are registered. The express intent of the Second amendment is to give the lawful government the ability to quickly muster a "well regulated militia" should the need arise. How can that possibly be accomplished, and the intent satisfied, if the government doesn't know exactly who owns these guns and where they are located? How will these potential militiamen be located and coordinated effectively. All firearms MUST be registered at all times. This does in no way violate the right to own guns, but rather specifically follows the intent of the Second amendment, and further establishes that right
Registering your guns is your patriotic duty, not an infringement upon your rights.
Gun control" is not the answer, but "Gun owner control" is The Second Amendment does not give "everybody" the right to own firearms Unlike other rights, that right is plainly conditioned in the wording. You must first and foremost be willing, able, and available to serve in the "well regulated militia" Who regulates this militia? Why the Federal government of course. Consequently, it can be well argued that the Federal Government has not only the right, but the duty to control gun ownership by whatever method they might deem appropriate.
I can't prove this - but i strongly suspect that trans people are far more concerned with just being who they are, and with getting the medial care to make that possible, and coping with bullies who want to destroy them, whether with bullets or with mockery, than with shooting anyone.
"..'people who are transgender are mentally ill and can lose their Second Amendment rights to possess firearms."
So exactly how would that work? What happens when I want to buy my next deer rifle. Will I have to tick the No box on the FFL application asking in I'm transexual? Will my gun shop guy insist I drop trow before handing over my purchase?
“Republicans know full well that there is not some kind of “epidemic” of transgender mass shooters.”
TBF, that should say “Politicians and others on the right who gain and keep power by lying to people know full well…” Because “republicans” writ large are just ignoramuses who “know” what they are told to know. Many many of them do “know” that there is an epidemic of trans violence, because they’ve been told there is. Just because someone knows something, doesn’t mean they are right.

How did she respond?

They've already decided that taking away the guns of legal cannabis users was fine. Why not fuck with us Queer folx?

I do not see anywhere in the Second Amendment a mention of trans people
Cool observation, bro. Why do you think that's significant?

Spot on! Targeting trans people is the lowest form of the currently popular political bullying. those who engage in it are beyond despicable..

IANAL but wouldn't banning trans people from having guns be an unconstitutional bill of attainder? You're passing a law to punish a class of people.
