I'm excited. Found a grow tent and a shelf for cheap. I'll need some lighting, which is easy enough, and I forgot if it comes with a fan or not, which is also a very easy fix.
Jemele Hill has some things to say about FBI Director Kash Patel using taxpayer money to see the Olympic men's hockey team win gold over Canada and Trump's awkward post-victory phone call to the team.
She also reacts to 'Sinners' stars Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo having their BAFTA awards presentation interrupted by a racist slur.
BAFTA *did not apologize* to Michael Jordan or Delroy Lindo.
“Why is it always Black people who are put upon to make EVERYONE ELSE feel comfortable when the public slur is levied against Black people and it is Black people who need the comfort?”
“How is there more responsibility placed on the people who are actually victimized by this – the people who are always than the people who are DOING it?
IF THAT MAN HAD SHOUTED A DIFFERENT SLUR THAT OFFENDED A DIFFERENT GROUP, THERE WOULDN’T BE NEARLY AS MUCH RATIONALIZATION
“If the slur had been against Jewish people – would BAFTA have not found the grace to apologize to the people against whom the slur was levied? Gay folks? Other disabled folks?”
Because wypipo would have to acknowledge things that make them uncomfortable, and instead of addressing centuries of institutionalized racism, they act like they're the real victims.
All you’re pointing out here is what’s already happening
What I would like to know is why the people who see it happening and who who sees it happening and knows it is wrong are willing to do to CHANGE something that is CLEARLY wrong — especially when we also see the POLICY WRONGS that flow from it and hurt everyone but hurt specific groups of people disproportionately even as people mouth platitudes about “treating people equally”.
As Jemele mentioned, when a slur is levied at any other group — there is an apology levied to any other members of that group who were attacked and offended.
Why that obviously international exception for Black people alone? Why are ONLY BLACK PEOPLE burdened with “thank you for handling it with grace so WE are not uncomfortable?”
Why are White people willing to suffer at least some of that discomfort for members of ANY OTHER GROUP?
I also learned that apparently in Germany schoolchildren are taught about the Holocaust starting in the 3rd grade - and the parents expect it - and so the children come home and sit with the parents and everyone talks it out and learns to manage not just their feelings, but learns how to do better.
I’m quite frankly tired of excuses being used as explanations.
Yep. We also learned about propaganda and manipulation in the media from 4th grade on. I'm very glad to hear that this is still happening.
We're all tired of excuses being used as explanations. It sucks.
"platitudes about “treating people equally”"
That's the same as "I don't see color" and equally toxic. All it does is wave away every issue that is attached to being a member of a minority group.
I've been tired for the longest that it always falls on Black people to be the most reliable voting bloc while at the same time being the scapegoat for seemingly all ills of society.
The Japanese women who won silver and bronze were beautiful skaters in different styles, each captivating. I've followed Alysa Liu for years and what she brought, in addition to a perfectly "clean skate," was pure joy. But my absolute favorite part? How she embraced those Japanese skaters afterwards and they obviously shared her joy because it wasn't about HER. It was about skating.
There are no studies on whether Republicans have a biological unfair advantage at sports. And if there are studies about it, they aren't high quality. Therefore, to maximize fairness, we have to ban all Republicans from all sports until more studies have been done.
"FBI Director Kash Patel, who is 45 years of goddamn age, swilling beer like a frat pledge"
This is Ka$h's entire problem. I'd bet anything he rushed Sigma Chi/Lambda Chi freshman AND sophomore year and got tossed in the lake instead of a bid.
Interesting work here about the Texas Democratic primary. Not a horse-race analysis, but looking at it I get the feeling that Saint Colbert maybe humiliated himself for nothing. Or maybe you can parse some massive support for the obscure god-bothering white bro.
Beef stew is stewing. We didn't have beef broth so I did something with chicken bouillon and onion bouillon and worstershire sauce and beer. I think it'll work out.
In other Olympics news, Tonya Harding ":As of January 2024, she reported working as a custodian for two businesses. She is married to Joseph Jens Price, and they have a son named Gordon."
I love Donna Summer's rendition of MacArthur Park, and Liu's flawless skate to it was just a party. You don't often see a perfect long program in competition, especially delivered with such joy, but she did it. There are some who don't consider figure skaters to be "athletes" comparable to other events. But what of curling and driving a bobsled which are barely aerobic. Skaters bring a ton of strength, skill, and endurance and blend it with art like no other event winter or summer. Her performance was a GOAT for this sport and her joy and spirit are inspirational and contagious. The music choice is what pins the performance for me. The only others I can recall almost photographically were Arakawa (gold) in 2006 to Turandot and of course Asada (silver) in 2010 to Bells of Moscow.
Bobsledding demands extreme, explosive power, high-level sprinting speed, and intense muscular strength, particularly in the legs, back, and core, to accelerate a ~500 lb sled from a standstill. Athletes endure up to 5-6 G-forces in corners, requiring high-level neck and core strength, while maintaining a lean, powerful physique to manage speed.
I'm not here for a fight and I only mentioned that it's not aerobic, while skating is. So we can just agree to differ. Skating brings all the stellar artistry and choreographic coordination, besides requiring strength and control. Total time in a bobsled is under 4 minutes over 4 runs with breaks in-between, and sitting. So the G-forces are mostly on your bum, with yes, torquing but there are helmets and padding. The explosive is maybe 4 seconds. Skaters' landing G-force per jump is like 13G on a narrow steel blade, 7 times in a 4-minute program, more if combo jumps. After explosing yourself off the ice using one leg and coordinating the twist and landing. Then add the musical choreo and spins, etc. With the pressure of thousands and the judges in the audience critiquing every mistake in real time.
I keep watching and tearing up at videos of Alysa Liu hugging the Japanese skater who won the bronze.
I'm excited. Found a grow tent and a shelf for cheap. I'll need some lighting, which is easy enough, and I forgot if it comes with a fan or not, which is also a very easy fix.
Bagels leveling up his plant game. XD
OT, I can't tell if it stopped snowing or not.

That time dumbass Megyn Kelly came for Jemele Hill and wound up with a reality check was fun.
I’m getting weary of folks at large using racism for … entertainment purposes.
I wish that had never been culturally normalized.
I’d appreciate more people who were “entertained” getting after Megyn Kelly so she never opens her mouth to that end ever again.
That's essentially what Jemele told Megyn.
I love Delroy Lindo, but aside from that, WTF?
BAFTA *did not apologize* to Michael Jordan or Delroy Lindo.

The regime gets rid of DEI and then has the unmitigated gall to hire these clowns "based on merit"
I don't think so

I've been looking for my old skates ever since.
Ta, Marcie. I have rarely seen any performance as joyful as Alysa Liu's; she's stellar. Kash needs to krash, sooner rather than later.

Some of us New Yorkers are extremely resilient. We're not whining, we're coping.
Well, it's past my knees up here.
Now talk to Boston, where they're getting 2 feet.
Not to mention the Half-Pipe athletes (born in the US?) from Stanford, that did not rep the US.
"First, he invited the team to his State of the Union address on Tuesday evening. The players enthusiastically accepted the invite."
And he will bask and nod at the cheers for others.
Hopefully some will be "unable" to attend.
Scheduling conflicts, you know.
