I’ve been waiting on this move from Biden for a while. It’s waaaaaaay overdue, but it’s due, and it’s great. Plus it comes with the added satisfaction that the absolute worst conservatives in America are seething with rage about Biden simply opening all the prison doors and turning these potheads loose. Hasn’t he heard of recidivism??? :)

Yes, I can say that I think you’re wrong about who you term as “do-nothing progressives,” because I don’t agree with your definition or who you put in that category. I personally have no use for Bernie, but there are other progressives in Congress who do plenty beyond just writing bills - which you seem to think is their only purpose. I can appreciate when AOC used her position to raise $ for people in Texas after Winter Storm Uri, when our own Senator was fleeing to Cancun. Or when Katie Porter got the HHS Secretary in the TFG administration to agree to pay for COVID testing. Or Senator Warren pushing for student loan forgiveness. Frankly, I think we need progressives pushing from the left, to get things done that are maybe not perfect, but a step in the right direction, because politics involves the art of compromise. I want folks who push the Overton Window to the left, after years of the GQP pushing it ever further to the right.

The difference is that I appreciate anyone working left of center, including moderates. I don’t bash moderate DEMs, because we’re all working towards the same goals; it’s just a matter of degree. I’m not crazy about anyone who engages in public infighting, when we face an actual existential threat from the GQP, but that’s also what you do when you criticize progressive politicians for not meeting the higher standards you seem to have set for them.

But it’s fine; you’re entitled to your opinions and I’m entitled to mine, so we can agree to disagree.

I agree that cannabinoids should be treated the same as alcohol, but in terms of revising laws, regulations, policies, testing protocols, etc., we probably need a valid impairment test. Alcohol is easy--presence in the blood is a valid indicator of impairment. Cannabinoids are much trickier, and we need to get to the stage where we are testing for impairment, not for presence.

"Or Senator Warren pushing for student loan forgiveness."

Okay, this is a perfect example of what I can't stand. Biden was talking about canceling student debt via the HEROES Act as of November 2020 -- after he'd been elected BTW, so there was no cynical benefit to lying about it. And what did Biden eventually do ... ? He canceled student debt via the HEROES Act. Now, you say that Warren pushed for the forgiveness, but what role did she actually play in making it happen? Biden did exactly what he said he was going to do, via the mechanism he said he would use.

And in fact, we should keep looking into what Warren was up to. Warren was out there, almost daily on Twitter, telling everyone that Biden could cancel all student debt with the stroke of a pen. Her justification for this ... ? A sentence fragment taken out of context from 20 U.S. Code Part B (specifically § 1082 (a) (6)). Now, the woman taught law at Harvard, so she's no dummy; she has to know that sentence fragments are a dodgy thing to base policy on, especially when the rest of the sentence contradicts the point Warren was making. There's a word for that, and it's called "being dishonest as fuck". Okay, that's four words. The point is, what earthly good does it do to tell her fans that Biden could cancel more debt than he actually can? It makes Biden look bad.

"I’m not crazy about anyone who engages in public infighting, when we face an actual existential threat from the GQP"

Which is exactly what Warren is doing. It's what ANY of them are doing when they point fingers at Biden or whoever, and demand they do what they cannot.

"but that’s also what you do when you criticize progressive politicians for not meeting the higher standards you seem to have set for them."

My standards are LOW: either do your job, or don't complain about other people doing theirs.

But let's observe that I keep my mouth shut about politicians in tough races. There is no Democrat I have less respect for than Fetterman, but dude is at risk of losing to Oz, so I don't say the things about him that could be said. The time for that was primary season.

That Ohio ballot initiative would have been a horrible constitutional amendment that established a permanent monopoly not just on who could grow but who could be licensed to sell. It was so bad that there was another initiative on the ballot that would make such a monopoly illegal if it should pass. There have been attempts for a rational ballot initiative but they've been consistently blocked by DeWine's administration on technicalities. The thugs who run the state don't want pot legalized and are fighting it tooth and nail.
