How sadly appropriate that the next sign in the photo says Winkler County, named for a Confederate colonel. The same broad assholish mentality behind both the naming and the bill.

Besides the bigotry and hatred, there is a practical reason this cannot be allowed to pass. There are an estimated 43,000 trans kids in Texas. There are fewer than 30,000 kids in the foster care system in Texas, and it is a constant struggle to find homes for those already in the system. Over 10% of those kids are waiting for a home. Do they really think it's a good idea to more than double the number of kids in state care? Idiots.

I want to know where this is coming from. Some evil Republican think tank somewhere is pumping these bills out. So many similar bills in so many states at the same time smells like ALEC-style manipulation to me.

Texas is not a good place for kids who are poor or in any way different from the accepted "normal." Which is white and straight.
