I am fondly reminded of a song my mother sang to me when I was a very young child.

It was called "The Animal Fair".

I went to the animal fair,

The birds and the beasts were there,

The big baboon by the light of the moon

Was combing his auburn hair,

The monkey bumped the skunk,

And sat on the elephant's trunk;

The elephant sneezed and fell to his knees,

And that was the end of the monk,

|: The monk, the monk, the monk. :|

I remember it well. And now "the monk the monk the monk the monk" is my earworm for the day... :)

We sang that in grade school. I realized that I knew the lyrics even after almost 60 years, although I don't remember the tune.

The elephant reminds me of our dog Prudence--she loved almost all other creatures, and in the summers she spent all day snoozing on our balcony. The birds would come to the feeder and to hop around her, and the most she'd do was look at them with heavy, sleepy eyes, maybe one slow tail wag, and go back to sleep.

The look on the elephant when his bird friends are arriving is like that.

Flying in Europe when I was in my early 20s, I was seated next to someone who *reeked* bc they had like never worn deodorant ever, and to get revenge, I leaned against the window with my butt pointed at him and farted for the duration of the flight

I just read the will Ferrell article and I'm so happy to see someone with as much star power as he has, working to tear down bigotry and educate people. I have an 11 year old trans ftm child and we've been watching the ongoing crusade by Republicans with horror and disbelief. More allies need to be out there using their bully pulpit to educate the population. Thank you to will Ferrell and Harper Steele as well for allowing a microscope to be focused on your life in what I'm sure is not a fully comfortable way.

Penzey's will be at 1809 South Orange Ave, Orlando FL 32806. That address was A-1 Automotive, across the street from Orlando Health. I can get there from here!

Well, they finally got the music rights issues worked out so that Northern Exposure can be available for streaming. Prime's got it.

There was a Northern Exposure forum on GEnie (Oh, how old am I really?). I'd watch NE at 9:00, log on at 10:00 where everyone was rehashing the episode.

I read the story about the LNG thing yesterday. Several hours later, I get a notice that #1 cousin has posted something on LinkedIn "that may be of interest".

It's a graphic of the numerous LNG facilities along the Gulf Coast that his employer has had a part of building/developing.

re: trans bathroom bills. My sweetie's kid is trans-masc. If he were in one of those states he could never use a public restroom ever. He's got a full beard and male pattern baldness. And (afaik) still got a vulva and a vagina. No uterus, no boobs. Still the female genetics and outer bits (again, afaik)

If he were in one of Those states and went to use a ladies bathroom they'd come screaming out and have him arrested. He'd probably be fine using the men's, but he can't pee standing up and he'd be technically illegal (he could probably get away with it.)

Although he'd probably have already been attacked for the fact that he wears his beard and receding hair in bright colors.

So happy to hear about the free tax filing pilot. My taxes are complicated AF but most people have very straight forward taxes. The government knows how much you owe already. There should be a web form somewhere with your info prefilled from your W2s, just clicky clicky to confirm, get your refund deposited in the account of your choice.

I swear if the Democratic party started advocating for legal abortion, legal weed, legal/regulated sex work and making it very easy to file your taxes and just STFU about literally every other issue (while quietly doing the work to keep the country going and supporting our allies abroad) we'd win in a landslide.

Dark Brandon is trying to fix the au pair system, which under current rules allows employers to pay their employee 60% of their state's minimum wage, and work them for 45 hours a week with no over time.

So, let's see - 45 hours/wk x 4 weeks = 180 hours

Total pay for 180 hours = $1,550.

Per hour wage = $8.6

NY state minimum wage (2023) = $15

60% of $15 = $9.00

Yep, that pretty much works out.
