Good day, sir!

Looking at all the fur surrounding me, I have to disagree.

Give a cat a fish, it will complain you never feed it.

Teach a cat to fish, it will leave fish heads under the bed.

I get concerned about certain individuals of the f̶e̶r̶a̶l̶community cats that we look after as part of the Trap-Neuter-Return program. But worry about them in general? Not rational. They are just opposable digits away from revolution...

A flash, a snatch, a clever catch

And then it's time to eat.

That was too easy. That cat doesn't go fishing, they go catching.

She literally didn't answer the question about how she felt about Obama's comments...

Expand full comment

Of course not. She's a politician running for high office. They avoid answering questions like that. The only politician that would answer a question like that would lie in their answer.

A question like that is intended as a gotcha. She has better sense.

Is it just me, or is the sound on that Shade Room video unintelligible? I've tried it here, I've tried on YouTube, I've tried it in a different browser, all of them are the same "sounds like listening to a TV from two floors away" sound quality.

The Mirage is a great old-school Chicago corruption story. Should have won a Pulitzer.

Why did he stand on stage for 40 minutes doing nothing? “Let’s not do any more questions. Let’s just listen to music. Let’s make it into a music. Who the hell wants to hear questions, right?”

He pooped his pants?

DO YOU WANT FREE EDUCATION??? So do I, so I come bearing a cool lesson from Practical Engineering about dam building, electrical generation, and and the why the Taum Sauk dam failed in 2005. This guy is very cool, very nice, and worth a YouTubes subscription if you're into that sort of thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRM2AnwNY20&ab_channel=PracticalEngineering

Thanks, Jimmy. You have been my hero since they laughed at you about your warnings about oil being depleted and global warming being a real thing and when you put a solar panel on the White House. Your own party fucked you over and you just went home, did good things all over the world, and loved your wife. A life well-lived. I hope you get to see her elected.

Fun Pam Zekman fact: she blew off steam by taking sculpting classes with John Kearney at the Contemporary Art Workshop, a dilapidated artist space (not unlike the Mirage lol it was a mess and pretty sure there was inspection shenanigans there bc no way was it fire safe) in what is now the priciest neighborhood in town (several local reporter superstars also lived nearby, including Walter Jacobson).

Reportedly, North Korean troops have been deployed in Ukraine, specifically in the Mariupol sector.

This is not surprising. Aside from the fact that North Korea is responsible for half of Russian artillery shells and missiles fired, North Korea is infamous in supporting the worst regimes around the globe. In 2007, North Korea technicians supported Syria in building a nuclear reactor, which subsequently was bombed to smithereens by the Israeli air force, killing dozens of the North Koreans and ending that project overnight. This is how to deal with that situation.

This development is only the latest proof that timid response towards Russian aggression will only result in more problems. Russia, North Korea, Iran and more do not share the sentiment we have in terms of force. Force is their method of ruling, and force is the only thing they respect, something many in Western capitals and elsewhere are failing to grasp. Appeasement is the way to world war.

Autocracies will never stop expanding the boundaries until they stand in your garden and then world war is inevitable. We have to stop this in its tracks and the most efficient way to do this, is to remove all constraints and doubts and give Ukraine what is needed to end this war in favorable way, for Ukraine and by extension for us.

Slow clap for His Excellency Olaf the Slow for finally sending some serious military aid to Ukraine this week. It's infuriating to watch the German government's half-assed measures when they absolutely know what will happen if Ukraine falls. And yet the government keeps drifting to being ever more evenly divided between Russian proxies and an exhausted centrist coalition that just wishes it would all go away on its own.

Lawrence O’Donnell had Bob Woodward on “The Last Word” yesterday. I think the podcast audio was somehow scrambled (different parts put together in the wrong order) … but unless I am mistaken, Woodward did mention that Biden was really anxious about helping Ukraine … but not too much or something.

“It is complicated”, sigh.

Jake Broe has a great youtube channel for Ukraine updates, and has been yelling for over a year about Jake Sullivan (an unrelated Jake) who seems to be the sole voice in the White House holding up arms supplies out of fears over escalation. There's some stupid CYA process going on where he's making everybody else in the chain sign off on a declaration supporting unlimited-range ATACMS use, and it's taking forever.

Yet another reason why it's absolutely imperative that Harris win the election.
