Many of us know someone who has passed on from a severe cannabis stoning, or in a paisley fractal haze of hallucinogenic mushrooms. Why, a good friend of mine nearly died laughing, so be careful what TV shows you watch, kids, Satan lives on Sesame Street and vakays in Tellitubbieland!

If religion is what religioinsts do -- and it is -- then there is a long Christian tradition of opposing measures to fend off death.

Even the people who get their divinity degrees from some ad in the back of a magazine have more knowledge of the Christian faith than this ignorant loser.

From what I understand, a not small portion of the RE's downfall also had to do with their military not keeping up with their overexpansion of territory, so they had to enlist local goons as mercenary soldiers. Then, they proceeded to not pay or feed them. After that, it was sacking after sacking.... so many sackings.

Yeah, running back and forth from Persia to Brittania with the Legion the emperor could trust not to assassinate him was not terribly efficient. They left lesser legions in place and they got co-opted or beaten and then the Emperor had to drag his legions back and put down the unrest. It's been interesting to see how the debasement of the coinage and the ensuing inflation really jerked them around. Whatever else was happening, ya gotta pay the legions.

Yes, the ideas expressed in the Federalist piece are ridiculous, and well summarized here by the good Doktor. But unless you click the link and (try to) read the piece itself, you have no way of knowing how truly, truly terrible the writing itself is. Here is a wonderful, which is to say terrible, example:

It’s a mark of the weakness of the Western church that more church leaders have not proclaimed this to the world by now. They’ve left standing for basics of the faith to the far too few strong pastors such as John MacArthur and Mark Dever.

All this idiocy AND an awful prose style: And yet this woman is named "Joy"! Isn't life just the craziest thing?
