I closed my eyes and imagined what "Elle Purnell, the elections editor at the Federalist" looked like, then googled her. Bingo.

wait, you expect that degree of self awareness from a book banner?

in order to educate school kids about the electoral college, let them have class elections on something, could be what movie to watch or what book to read for a report, and give the kids with big houses 2 more votes to cast then the kids with rented apartments.

Regret's avatar

To be fair to the electoral college, it was set up to give each state similar power for choosing the presidency. If you want to convince low population states to join your federation, then this is an entirely reasonable demand from the low population states.

Golly this lady is sharp as a tack! Ain’t nuthin’ gonna get by her! She wasn’t just born in a turnip patch! Like all them Republicans, she don’t miss a trick! Nefarious kids’ books, Democrat hurricane-making machines, Jewish space lasers - they caught them all! Bless their little tinfoil hatted heads, the lil scumbags.

Everything is biased against conservatives. Some particularly egregious examples include history books, science books, the Bible, the Constitution, audio footage, video footage, peoples eyes, ears…

FuzzyLogician's avatar

It is especially libelous that reality itself is biased against Republicans (I might point out that conservatives are rarely found in that party anymore.)

so this Federalist person was called "Purnell" the first two times she was mentioned and then "Purcell" for the rest of the piece.

have you been watching Fallout? ionly noticed because Ella Purnell plays one of the leads ...

Maybe Pluck Purcell from "Another Roadside Attraction?"

But I really don't think he would be a Republican.

Republicans hate lots of things, and nothing more than a mirror.

People who are prejudiced can't see that they are as they hang around other prejudiced people who substantiate their skewed perspective. Education when properly conducted hopefully enables someone to get beyond their immediate circle and approach ideas and ideals from a broader perspective, which is why MAGAts want indoctrination, not education.

I can't believe that the Project 2025 didn't include changing the Department of Education to the Department of Indoctrination. Goebbels would be so mad.

Fifth Dentist's avatar

No, their plan is to let each red state indoctrinate in its own special way.

It kinda goes without saying.

Let's be honest, they would be complaining about ANYTHING short of "I support abortion after birth" and "I think rapists, murderers, pedophiles and gang members should be welcomed into the country regardless of how they cross the border, and immediately given welfare and put up in fancy hotels" to represent Democratic views.

I wonder if the Federalist lady would be less upset if the book had a leather binding and a foreword by Lee Greenwood?

Lady is straight up admitting that Republicans have off putting ideas

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

Leather? Sure, that will whip her into line.

"Just to make sure your kids got the point, readers are prompted to write down their opinion about which system seems “fairer.”"

They don't want kids to think or debate or consider alternative viewpoints. They are literally arguing against letting kids write an argument about which system is fairer. Kids should only believe what their Republican parents indoctrinate them to believe.

So much for Ben Shapiro's constant refrain about trying to have a debate.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

Ben only EVER meant "you should let me talk and never give pushback"

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

They also seem to assume that every kid's opinion would be different than the GOP line. I wonder why they think that?

Revenant's avatar

Maybe because every Republican policy is objectively anti-kid, anti-fun, and anti-animals. Bonus question; who is the first President who never had a pet? And what party did he belong to?

Fifth Dentist's avatar

Geo. Washington kept a horse and lots of people.

So I guess that counts.

"Those immigrant-hating Republicans are the same greedy people who want lower taxes just so they can “have more money in their pockets,”"

How exactly is believing in lower taxes so that you can have more money in your pocket a bad thing? If anything, the writer oversimplified* views on taxes to make the Republicans sound better. Republican bloggers are just looking for reasons to validate their self-esteem issues.

*it's a fair enough oversimplification in so much as it's intended for kids. The oversimplification about Democrats opposing too much spending on military is also not too accurate.

Regret's avatar

Seriously, lower taxes is an entirely reasonable thing for a political party to want. Kids get that, they understand that having more is better than having less. Kids aren't stupid, they just have some undeveloped brain parts (empathy and long term thinking are important ones) and they're very ignorant.

Q8 suggests that Republicans "don't believe immigrants should be let into the country." Currently, Republicans, including their presidential and VP nominee and most of their elected legislators and media personalities, are saying that immigrants shouldn't be let into this country because we must protect our cats and dogs. Maybe Republicans should stop saying they don't want any immigrants in the U.S. if they don't believe it?

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

That columnist is lucky the writer did not include the cats and dogs. It seems as foundational a GOP "principle" as any right now.

Immigrants, regardless of their status, commit crimes at a far lower rate than Trump and his minions.
