1) This deal took place in 2013. The date is very important. This was years before Russia invaded the Ukraine. Obama was working to normalize relations between the U.S. and Russia. In fact we were actually buying military helicopters for the Afghan Army from Russia at that point.
2) The U.S. and Russia were actually working together to clean up Cold War era nuclear weapons that were floating around the former Soviet Union to keep them out of the wrong hands at this point. The U.S. was working with Russia to secure and dismantle nukes through the Cooperative Threat Program. This even continued after the Ukraine invasion.
3) The mine in question was owned by a Canadian company and belonged to a French company before that. It had not been owned by the U.S. for nearly 20 years.
4) This is the most important point of all. Under the terms of purchase the uranium in that mine CAN NEVER, EVER BE EXPORTED. IT CAN ONLY BE SOLD TO THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!! This not only makes it impossible for Russia to use the uranium it gives US buyers an unfair price advantage because there is no free market competition.
5) Why did Rostam agree to this shitty deal??? It's because they had no interest in the American mine. They were buying massive mineral deposits in Kazakhstan, which were worth vastly more than a uranium mine that produced 2 million pounds a year. In fact after studying it for days I could not understand what I was missing.UNTIL. I read an article by Newsweek in which the reporter said he has watched Fox News for three days straight and still couldn't figure out what this has to do with Clinton. It doesn't. That is why Fox quickly changed the subject to the 7 year old "scandal" after using the trucking story as a segue.
