If you are putting up a site to look at make sure it isn't blocked. There's no way I'm subscribing to thr new york times just to look at some stupid article. Just quote the area you want to show.

Most people do more due diligence before buying a new car than trump did before attacking a country.

This clusterfuck is directly attributable to toxic masculinity. Too many weak, mediocre assholes with shit to prove. I think Hegseth has a grudge against actual military leadership and gets off on ordering smarter, actually competent men around. He won't be able to admit his own incompetence and failures, and lots of people are going to be killed as a result.

It's long been clear that lil marco is not too bright and not too endowed with character, but I would have thought that at least SOME -- maybe 100, maybe 10, maybe 1 -- employee of the US Department of State who preceded lil marco's tenure would have insisted that he think about evactuation plans in advance. It's what State has done, mostly successfully, for 100 years or more (except April 1975 in Saigon, and May 2021 in Kabul). But there really ARE planners in the DOS who know what they're doing.

Alas, lil marco might well have been told, urged, pleaded with to plan for chaos, but he's clearly too intimidated by "he-men" Sir and Hegseth to raise the subject himself. What a limp dick he is. And a dim, dumb, and spineless one, too.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

There were planners of this nature at State. Are there still?

DOGE, you know.

I suspect that farther down the chain are still people who are good and experienced at that. Of course, they probably won't stick their heads up or the necks out.

Really hope all the folks get out of the Middle East; US citizens and anyone else. But since the Internet is blacked out and Kari Lake shut down VoA and now just stays home eating bonbons, watching "Outnumbered", and waiting for her paychecks, that may be tough. Maybe they can make it like a game of telephone?

Failed interior decorator Grandpa Pedo’s brain is pudding.

Oh course, the real reason why this regime hasn’t done anything to help Americans evacuate these countries is because they’re all stupid and don’t actually give a shit about American citizens working abroad.

For those of you who weren't around during the 1980 presidential election candidate Ronald Reagan, a washed-up third rate actor and industry snitch ratfucked Jimmy Carter to get himself elected. That evil troll Henry Kissinger earned his bones, too.

Broke the law, lied about it, and kept lying about it while getting a free pass from the media. Eventually (*poof*) he got a free pass for his treachery.

Reagan should have died in prison instead of being presented to voters as some sort of brilliant strategic statesman.

Reagan was not prosecuted for his crimes and so here we are today, all of us, ratfucked like Jimmy Carter:

That would have been the 1980 election for Carter and Reagan, the '72 election was Nixon and McGovern. So actually if Jimmy was President now he would have had more reasons to attack Iran than PeDoNald.

"(Here let us wag our finger at the New York Times for running Trump’s bullshit claim without any fact check.)"

Not only do they publish bullshit statements from the administration without factchecking, they put it in the headline! You have to read the body of the story to find out there is no proof for the claim. Also, too, one of the reasons they do this is because they know that toddler only reads the headlines.

Really, if you are a U.S. citizen traveling outside of the U.S. or inside of the U.S. or anywhere in your yard, anything that happens to you is your own damned fault at this point. You really should have planned ahead.

Brian McCurdy's avatar

The U.S. government bombed a country it didn't have to and—instead of planning ahead like a competent administration would—set up a hotline to get our civilians home and tells people to call the hotline, which will only tell them "I don't know what to tell ya." This is a profound disgrace and these people need to be hounded in the streets about it.

The media asymmetry between right-wingers and everyone else will destroy this country.

If a Democratic president did what Trump did and got six service members killed, and no plans to evacuate Americans, the right-wing media would make sure even the most politically clueless disengaged person on the street would know about it.

Atrele Kasha's avatar

Thought. American non-military casualties will enrage and distract the electorate.

Why evacuate when they're more useful under threat?

Never attribute to maliciousness what can easily be explained by stupidity.

Atrele Kasha's avatar

And just quite frankly, I'm not fucking interested in giving the benefit of the doubt to seriously evil people.

It is malice. It was always malice. Act like it.

Atrele Kasha's avatar

Every time I hear that, I just say this: At what point is it relevant? Also, a lot of maliciousness is straight fucking stupidity.

It is maliciousness. FULL fucking stop.

Anyone who visits the Middle East or works in the Middle East is a few tacos short of a combination plate. I decided that during the Seven Years War (or was it Seven Days? Seven Minutes?) and it has constantly proven true.
