You may have noticed that we did not livebloog the White House Correspondents Dinner last night, because we were already well into an ether and risotto binge, and also it is not terribly funny, except in years when the President is making fun of Donald Trump
The press hated McHale who did okay, but nobody remembers last year when Conan O'Brien's material was bad/mediocre while the audience laughed hysterically.
I think it was rather cruel to put up Colbert for comparison with McHale. Colbert looked like somebody who tells jokes for a living. McHale looked like the uncle who's supposed to do the warmup for the best man, and starts "unaccustomed as I am to public speaking".
"Orange is the new black" is the line that I'll remember.
Nerd Prom.
in their alternate universe it never happened
I think your assessment is correct.
It just probably wasn't "centrist" and "bipartisan" enough for the rest of the press.
I watched it on C-SPAN. I groaned, I laughed, I felt like Joel McHale was speaking directly to me.
"And thank you, Cspan viewer."

"Those are the sort of decisions that would keep me up at night." Given the context, that is the biggest burn of. all. time.

Not to dampen the force field or anything, but it's also the day four died in Ohio.
