Sadly I seem to have missed out on much of that hot military gay sex Evan speaks of. I do remember a friend on the mess deck, who used to serve steaks for mid-rats. He had to marry a lesbian woman and his husband married her partner so they could get the equal pay straight service members earned through the housing allowance, and they could all live together. It makes me happy that those arrangements are no longer necessary. We have come a long way.
The First Lady's comments reminded me of a couple things right away.
1) I started tending bar in a gay disco in December '77. Three weeks later it's Christmas and we're open that night, and maybe I didn't look too happy about it. Plus, I'm straight and the boss knew I was straight, and seeking to clue me in on something that maybe I didn't quite get, he said to me, "You know why we're open on Christmas? Because, for some of these people, they have nowhere else they can go."
That boss was Bob Bonaventure, and I want to give a shout-out to him before I move to point 2. He ran the Old Plantation in El Paso, Texas. Various times I thought he was an asshole, and he fired me at least twice, but he was a good egg. He passed away about ten years ago, after living a life where he looked after his community, both gay and straight.
Now, 2) My closest friend back in those disco-dolly days, a gay fellow I'd grown up with, told me once, when we were walking along some sidewalk in Downtown El Paso, "You will never know what it's like. You can walk down the street holding hands with your lover. I can never do that."
Ive rewatched enough John Oliver that several phrases have gotten lodged in the 8-year old’s brain. The other day she was doing some arty stuff for Pride and hollered at me, “Mama! I turned the frickin frogs gay!”
Ta, Evan. This is wonderful.

That was lovely! It made me cry! We need more Dr. Jill in our lives!!
Man, when she said she and OHJB loved me, I believed it. Totally felt the love.
Right? I'm all teared up over here, and the last time a political speech made me do that was fuck if I know.
Verklempt--it's not just a word for fighting while playing Scrabble
Well I for one will be protesting with the
Fathers
Against
Gays
Society
Stupid onion ninjas.
if only Joe were a REAL man!
/s I suppose I have to add that.
damn onions
I like the way Dr. Biden framed that. Very good stuff.
The Stonewall visit is also great. I want to check out the Stonewall NHS again at some point. Was nice last time I was there.
Going with Elton is first level trolling of DJT, who is his big fan
I think...
Not being able to be one's authentic self can be a serious impediment to living one's best life.
Be best, indeed. Nicely done, Dr. Jill!
That's my girl, I love Jill.

What a truly lovely and loving speech.
Biden has many faults, but he's pretty damn good on LGBTQ+ issues. _Especially_ for someone old enough to have great-grandkids
Tell me again how both sides are the same? Where melon giving this kind of speak in front of the log cabin dead enders?
Chemicals in the water, that turn the freakin' White House gay!
