Trump who?

My family became citizens by virtue of the terms of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. They did not own slaves. They were Republicans. They voted for Lincoln. They remained Republicans until Herbert Hoover gave them no other choice. Their ancestors were living in that country for 150 years when they became Americans. Bet there is nothing about them in the 1776 Trumpfiction..

Perhaps the best place to start is with this quote: "History is more than a mere collection of facts. What are the 'facts' of the French Revolution? Why, you must reach up to Heaven, and down to Hell, to gather them!" George Otto Trevelyan.

Substitute the American for the French Revolution, and "1776" becomes an exercise in regressive revisionism, a return to the 'great white man' version of national creation and advancement that defined the study and discussion of US history, within the self-congratulatory confines of "reaching up to [alt-Right] Heaven", and totally ignoring the "reaching down to [historically accurate and honest] Hell part.

Contrary to the Introduction's second paragraph, the purpose of historical studies isn't to be "unifying, inspiring and ennobling"--it is simply to inform and educate. Anything else is just polemics and propaganda. Although my only academic credential here is a state college B.A. in History awarded 45 years ago, I will, as a matter of intellectual honesty (if not masochism) plod through this screed of uncredited hacks. To get a sense of what's wrong with "1776", there's this: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Should have come with a warning; "No historians were involved in the creation of this document. May be harmful to your mental health."

Well, my credential is one year younger that yours, but also from a stat college. IIRC, history is supposed to be accurate and honest, the "unifying, inspiring, and ennobling" part is propaganda, not history. In some ways, they do occasionally hit on a truth (blind pigs and acorns), such as "Properly understood, these facts address the concerns and aspirations ofAmericans of all social classes, income levels, races and religions, regions and walks of life. As well, these facts provide necessary—and wise—cautions against unrealistic hopes and checks against pressing partisan claims or utopian agendas too hard or too far." But they want us to only understand a few (and sometimes distorted) facts.

I have to leave the room if Dolt 45 is speaking. It is beyond my understanding how ANYONE could take him seriously.

I did read what you wrote. I just fundamentally disagree with it. Slavery is the central issue, the original sin. Racism as a whole is the second big one, but it still all starts with slavery.

In the evil 1776 screed it also says another constructed artificial grouping is "Hispanic".

Needless to say, the word, whatever it's meaning, existed in a Latin form back in ancient Rome, and existed in English well before any of the Brits ever sailed to North America. So to claim that ''Hispsanic" was an artifical grouping created by the 'sixties radicals' is just so much bullshit on so many fucking levels.

Are you telling me that Republicans will be expected to pretend that something bad might have happened at some point in America? And what's going to happen when they find out about this? These are people who lost their minds when traitor statues were removed. If they find their version of 21st century Parson Weems myths has been deleted, their heads may explode. With any luck at all.
