Not to be all "not all southerners", but I think we can lay off the characterization of the south (you know, the place where most Black Americans live) as the source of all evil ignorance. There are dumbasses all over. Except maybe in the Berkshires. I hear they're nice.
the best thing that came out of Twilight was Anna Kendrick's career. I'm reminded of that because I always think of her being all ultra preppy white girl shading Kristin Stewart's biker "friend" when she's trying to summon visions of sparkle vamp boy. "Well, he seems GREAT. Can we go now?"
Unfortunately, it is actually a beautiful state where I have lived my whole life. It's been destroyed by the Republican party through gerrymandering and other illegal machinations and due to climate change will probably end up mostly under water before we can take it back. I'm leaving here within the next year for good and I wish I could say I'll miss it, but I see no future here. It's very sad what they've done to this state.
The Communist tactic absolutely baffles me. About the only people who would vote based on that argument are already going to vote Republican.
The Soviet Union fell early on in GenX's lives. It wasn't the overwhelming concern to them that Boomers grew up with.
Muslims were the boogieman du jour during the Millennials coming-of-age. All they knew about Communism was the failed states of North Korea and Cuba.
GenZ voters weren't even alive in the 20th century. The Cold War was something they studied in History class. And as they head to the polls, they've been treated to a front-row seat to the joys of Capitalism Unbound.
Thinking about the "Communist" accusations against Dr. King makes me wonder how much money the Soviet Union might have funneled into far right groups in the '50s and '60s. Despite their rhetoric in support of anti colonialism movements most of the Soviet big bosses likely had racist views of non Europeans. So they would have been quite happy to have the Klans and other groups foment violence and prevent the progress of the Civil Rights Movement.
Rawson's district borders with Alabama, an area of Florida notorious for their racism, but it extends south to the "suburbs" of Gainesville ( where the University of Florida's main campus is ).

Good question. It's trickier to imagine what those on the second step of this utopia's ladder would do. Easy to generalize about what the people (i.e., white men) on the top rung would do, and what would happen to the bottom.
Remember when Republicans made a big to-do about Obama (supposedly) not condemning "Radical Islamists?" But not condemning racists is apparently ok by them.
Part of me wonders whether assholes like this guy run for office for the sole purpose of making it a greater crime to rearrange their face. Sort of a very niche self-preservation method for hateful idiots:
