"But, as it turns out, it is entirely possible some were just upset about the idea of awareness, in general, as a concept."

"Awareness" could lead to "thinking", which is slippery slope to becoming "woke".

My grandson is 6 years old and diagnosed with autism how can anyone believe God would would not see them as his special children. I am so glad we have a great school that has autism awareness week and they incorporate all children so they can see that they are not so different than themselves. Shame on you how dare you call yourself a pastor may God enlighten you to these precious souls.

I am Autistic. The idea that my neurotype - which developed in the womb - and therefore is part of God’s Ineffable Plan - being demonic is blasphemy of the highest order.

Also, as a note, most Autists would prefer Acceptance rather than Awareness.

Private schools anecdotally can be reluctant to deal with anything outside their norms. They may be hoping these autistic kids will leave.

I had friends who had to send their kids to public school so they could get the services they needed. Their private/religious schools just said they were SOL.

This happens all the time.

Those Christians focused on "demons" and the "demonic" are outside Jesus's ambit already. They are freelancing their own paranoid fixations, which have no basis in Gospel. And their claim to do it in Jesus's name is itself heretical. They are setting themselves up as gods.

I just wish they wielded less power.

Somebody should send him a letter telling him that. Also they should add that he can't have an identity as an American or a man or a pastor or (probably) a Republican or anything else because that would be having an identity outside of Christ, and he said that was demonic.

Too bad he'd just throw the letter away and ignore it, because I'd want to see his reaction.

Evangelical Christians believe that God can do no wrong and that everything that is good comes from Him, and all that is evil comes from Satan (who is a fallen angel that was created by God, but, somehow his evil wasn't also created by God). Therefore, something like autism cannot occur because a baby is without sin (except for Original Sin, that came from the evil Adam and Eve, whom God created, but who were corrupted by Satan into having sex, which is evil) and therefore autism has to be a manifestation of demonic evil that has possessed the person. Otherwise, for autism to have come from God, means that God is evil, rather than just allowing evil things to happen, and that cannot happen within their philosophy.

One small comment....."everything that is good comes from HIM"........Why not HER..........or THEM? I'm an Atheist, so I got no dog in this fight other than pointing out that this ASSHAT lead pastor is more moronic than most of these bible thumping mouth breathers......

Because Evangelicals believe that God is male instead of a being who is non-binary.

I get it.....it's the same as Mormonism (that I grew up in, and what eventually convinced me it was all bullshit) I live in Thailand, and I'm probably aligned more with Buddhism than anything.......but I still ain't going to no temple and giving my money to the clergy......nope, nope, nope......I DO give money to the street poor who are just trying to stay alive and feed their families........too bad 'Christians' don't see the utility of caring for EVERYONE, regardless of who they are and what their particular situation is.......

i am so mad right now - what an asshat

So this Baker tool has no "identity" apart from being a Christian? Never speaks of himself as, say, an American? If I asked his race or sexuality or gender, or what political party he supports, he'd have no answer because it's demonic to have an identity?

Huh.

And they wonder why people are leaving Christianity. SMDH.

This is what Trump&Co want for the whole damn country. A bunch of ignoramuses denying basic reality and making life as shitty as possible for as many people as possible (rich white Christian men excluded).

Who made this man a "pastor" since he seems unaware of simple logic or any Christian understanding.

So, you still have Individual Education Plans (IEP) for children with special needs?

Hey, dipshit! Special needs children is an identity, and Jesus is going to shit all over them for claiming to be "special" when he's the only one allowed to be "special".
