Anyway I too was ticketed for jaywalking. I thought I was crossing the street safely, nimbly avoiding an oncoming car in a far lane when I heard a voice behind me say through some kind of loudspeaker "Next time, walk with the light!" My response? I flipped the voice the bird. All of a sudden I hear the roar of a car engine and it's a cop chasing me down! He pulls over, leaps out and orders me to sit down! He charges up to me demanding to know why I flipped him off. "I didn't know you were a cop!" I said. Man he was mad! Huffing, puffing, full-on adrenaline overload. He could barely talk he was just choking on his anger. I was like, dude, fucking calm down I was jaywalking and I flipped you off, I didn't just toss a grenade in your face! Chill! Maybe leaving your job as a flower arranger wasn't the best career move? I did not verbalize those thoughts however because even though I was in still in my 20s I had developed a few survival instincts. Like being white and privileged. Works almost very time! Highly recommended.

That's what clearly happened with Sandra Bland. There was just that one moment when the cop perceived her not respecting him, and, out of nowhere, all bets were off.
