"There’s something strange about Republicans willing to die for things they don’t think are a hoax.
Covid, climate change"
But those are things that they DO think are hoaxes.
My take on it is that they would rather die, or at least risk death, than do something that they're told to do, because that's tyranny, or communism, or something else bad.
"horror movie where the dumb jock mocks the boogeyman then is shocked to find out he’s real."
Some guy wrote an article online where he got Covid and technically literally died in the hospital, but through a tremendous effort, the doctors and nurses punched him back to life, and I swear to Christ on the Bible, ended by saying, "But I *still* think it's a hoax!"
Perhaps someone conceived of that article, and then dismissed it as a waste of time. They will keep, and have kept, shooting themselves in the foot over and over again, voting for demonstrably worse lives -- no health care, worse schools, lower wages -- as long as it hurts the people they hate.
I see your point. But if by social support system you mean family, I'd be urging my family to leave too. And many sane states have social services available. Poor people are not incapable of planning for their own welfare if they are able to appreciate what is looming ahead. It's an interesting problem that must be addressed in any discussion of the potentially fatal effects of loss of abortion rights and climate change.
I would rather our taxes go towards more useful projects, than helping people rebuild houses in places where they'll get blown over again, and again, and again. I mean, WTAF?

*birbs
Colorado isn't the best choice, because there's not enough water. But Minnesota or Michigan...
Managed retreat is the move here, along with a lot of coastal restoration: marshes, mangrove forests, maritime forests, and inland wetlands.
K.
This is true. Thanks for the reality check.

Come to Maine!
Love Maine so much. We used to go all the time but we haven't since my husband retired. We have got to make a trip soon!
"Be very careful of people trying to smuggle in their ideology." The projections run deep in this one.
Somehow I find it difficult to be sympathetic. But then, I'm an asshole.
Doncha wish Ian had landed on the East Coast of FL, instead of the West?

Now, how can a person ban words in the US of A?
