In response to Angela Ruzzo...I was dragged up in Tacoma, WA...and i don't know why so many white folks is skeered, either. Back then, we all shared a common characteristic: poverty. And most of us thought we would have a chance to grow through that. I still have my friends in Tacoma...but I live in North Idaho, now and we usually gather over there. And we are surrounded by lonely white guys with guns.

Good story! We have four black homeowners in my subdivision of 110 homes, and two of them have teenagers who walk home through the neighborhood from the bus stop. At least two or three times each year, at the start of the school year, I will get a call alerting me to "gang members" scoping out our neighborhood for potential burglaries. They call me because I'm on the HOA Board. I tell them "They're kids. They live here. Look at the clock - it's 3:30 pm, they just got off the school bus." Geeze Louise, get a fucking life, people. They never call me about the white guy who has a criminal record 20 pages long and drives drunk without a license through the subdivision every day, and who lives with his mom who has 5 guns in the house. No, they never call me about him.
Constant. It's constant but it's not too bad. Does that make me sound Stockholm Syndrome-y? :- )
Still, it's not like the old days when a white man could shoot a black man for looking at him funny. No, wait, it's EXACTLY like that.
