"This is not communist China..."

The proper sobriquet, as I recall from the good old days when Henry Luce did everything in his very considerable power to return the land of his birth to Chiang Kai-shek's benevolent rule, is Red China.

One of the sadder parts to me is that the consequences of the rejection of anti-poverty programs will be blamed on the wrong policies, and the cycle will just continue to get worse.

Not to worry; they're working on it.

Sell bonds so you can loan money to mom-and-pop property managers who will buy up repos. Use the rental revenue stream to pay interest on the bonds. What could possibly go wrong?

Far too much of the supposed charity tithed to churches actually goes to building state of the sound systems, lighting systems and HD video so they can produce a service in some of these mega churches that rivals yesterday's half time show. That's why it's so annoying when social conservatives tout their supposed generosity and charitable giving- buy new A/V doesn't exactly feed the poor or house the homeless

I keep recalling Mitten's "47%" comment. The part that hit me was when he said the 47% think "they're entitled to FOOD," with dramatic emphasis on "food," and I remember thinking, well, yes, Stupid McStupidpants, people, in general, ARE entitled to food. But really I guess that was one of those coded messages, which the Repugnants seem to have decoded just fine despite the clandestine way it was delivered, what with the sekrit hidden cameras and so forth.

They don't want anyone reminding them that they aren't actually helping the poor as Jesus commanded. Actually reading the bible and acting on the hippy's word so inconvenient and cuts into their parishioners time watching Real Housewives and organizing protests against gheys, sluts and poors. We can't have that.
