For some reason here in Texas today, a few hummingbirds were hovering outside the window and peeking into the house. I suspect this has to do with out flowers being in bloom.

This is the first time my wife has seen hummingbirds.

Do you know why humming birds hum? ------- They don't know the words!

I am about to go on a trip to Arizona. I was surprised to learn there are at least 14 hummingbird species in Arizona, although some are rare. Southeast Arizona is especially a birding hotspot.

It almost seemed like CGI to me! Love it,though, thank you! The only hummer I can get in my garden is the ruby throated hummingbird, and it is exquisite!

Hummingbirds look cute, but most are viciously territorial warriors.

I know. We put out a feeder when they return for the summer and they do not like to share their sugar water. To see 2 hummingbirds at the feeder is very rare as they will chase off other birds.

PAUL's avatar

Hang a couple more feeders out of sight of each other, like on different sides of the house. Greatly reduces territorial fights.

It’s not the size of the hummingbird in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the hummingbird.

I have seen I guess what you would call the alpha male stay so busy chasing other birds off that he doesn't get to eat. He chases one off and another slips in to grab a snack, then he chases that one off and another sneaks in, he chases that one and the first one comes back in only to be chased off again but after getting some food. But the aggressor is too busy protecting his food source to eat it. "It's mine, mine, mine!!!"

Beautiful creatures, I get one or two in the backyard when it's blooming

Between the speed of their motion and the frame rate of the camera, they have a special effects look...

Late addition:

"* The ABA has apparently joined the enemies list: “The Justice Department on Wednesday barred its lawyers from attending any American Bar Association events, escalating the Trump administration’s battle with the legal profession over who lawyers should take on as clients.”

One has to wonder how many Trump admin lawyers ( like perhaps Pam Bondi ) will receive "not qualified" ratings from the ABA now.

My SANDHILL CRANES have yet to arrive. There has been one report of a pair about 20 miles south of me though. Wild ducks are coming through. Still ice on parts of our lakes. Have been going through plenty of $ for bird seed. PILEATED woodpecker at the suet feeder

Colorado Department of Ed erasure! Our commissioner announced this same decision yesterday. The legal basis is delightfully straightforward and technical. The OMB has to approve data collection forms of this kind, through a somewhat lengthy process, and the form then receives an OMB stamp saying “yes, the feds are approved to request this info and you must provide it.” They didn’t go through that process here and the “form” they’re asking for doesn’t have an OMB stamp (nor would it, it wouldn’t have been approved through that process as these assurances are made multiple other places and part of the goal of the approval process is to avoid duplication). No stamp, no form. Too bad, so sad.

So I need to see what y'all think--I know that there are total scammy text messages, and I've had a few--the ones I mean are the ones that are vague and "Hi! Are you coming over for dinner next week?" or somesuch. But my phone's number's one from another state, so usually if I get something from an unknown number with that area code I know it's nothing and delete. But I got a text from a local area code that was vague, but not so much...I recently called two judges here (for personal not legal stuff) and left messages at their offices. I don't have their personal numbers but left mine. So this text is like, "Sorry I didn't get back to you but am happy to help" and so it could be one of those judges, but it could be scammy. Do I just do "That's okay give me a call when you can" or "who dis?" The text said they were getting on a plane for a funeral this weekend.

80% likely a scam. Ask for a name, that will clear it up quick.

Speaking of "fraud" bullshit, I saw an article on FAUX Business last night claiming that there's TONS AND TONS OF FRAUD in jobless claims, 120+ year olds claiming, 1 year old children claiming, claims from a hundred years from now. (i.e. Elon's minions STILL don't know how to read COBOL.) So that's fun. Maybe the idea is to make as many folks on the shit end of the economy as possible homeless, so they can be "relocated to the East" to the labor camps?

Perhaps why COMERAD SHITPISSKOV was transferred then!

He said that while Khalil’s activities were “otherwise lawful,” letting him remain in the country would undermine “U.S. policy to combat anti-Semitism around the world and in the United States, in addition to efforts to protect Jewish students from harassment and violence in the United States.”

Oh. So when are we deporting all these Neo Nazi groups the fuck out of here?

U.S. Egg Prices Soar To Record High, Despite Donald Trump's Prediction

It's also despite a drop in wholesale prices and no egg farms having bird flu outbreaks.

I haven’t bought eggs in two months now. Yesterday when I went shopping the store brand one dozen large eggs were $5.89 and the shelf was entirely full.

You’d think before long they’d be losing enough eggs to expiration to stop this nonsense.

From Justice Sotomayor's Garcia statement: "The only argument the Government offers in support of its request, that United States courts cannot grant relief once a deportee crosses the border, is plainly wrong. The Government’s argument, moreover, implies that it could deport and incarcerate any person, including U. S. citizens, without legal consequence, so long as it does so before a court can intervene. That view refutes itself."

Thanks for that second Bette Midler song, Editrix. Takes me back. Ann Arbor, 1978. Used to listen to that regularly. Didn't realize then how much it's really about sex. I mean, just listen to it. Damn. With age comes wisdom, but youth sure is fun.
