The US civil rights agency mandated to protect equal rights for workers is set to stop collecting data on the demographic makeup of companies – which for the past six decades has been used to enforce anti-discrimination laws.

A trans woman’s ‘agenda’ for Berkshire County
To the editor: Berkshire County sells itself as an escape, a long weekend where nobody can reach you.
Anyone who stays learns the opposite. This place is a handful of grocery stores and about 40 faces, and you will see every one of them daily until one of you dies. In other words, this is a community, and I have come to love it for exactly that reason.
Community means you cannot avoid me, and I cannot avoid you, though people do try. I have been trans here long enough to learn the local dialect of avoidance, and it almost never contains slurs. Slurs would be a conversation. Transphobia here is polite and unspoken. It is the neighbor who is warm in the comments sections and vague at the post office. It is the manager who will hang a pride flag but skip my pronouns. It is all the good people who read about what’s being done to trans people, feel awful and then find their shoes fascinating when I pass them on Main Street.
There is a great deal to carry. Gas is up in the sixth month of a war nobody voted for. Groceries have doubled. Your insurance went up 12 percent in January. Meanwhile, the men responsible have an explanation ready, and their explanation appears to be me. They say trans people have an “agenda.” They warn about bathrooms, school sports and surgeries for children. That is a strange set of charges against a woman who has never asked this county for anything except to be left alone at the pharmacy counter. They will name any agenda except the ones emptying your wallet.
So let me be the first trans woman to publish her agenda in full: to grow old in this county; to own a porch that needs work and spend 30 years not fixing it; to raise children embarrassed by this town who move back anyway; to be another face in the grocery line, counting change.
Community means you cannot avoid me, but it grants us something in return: the miracle of being sown in each other’s lives, of learning, of forgiving, over and over, in public, at low stakes, for decades. I am your neighbor, and soon our paths will cross. On the street, at the co-op, at the bus stop. I will try and say hello. Nothing would mean more to me than hearing it back.
It's time for my employer to reup our insurance. I got a call from HR after I left yesterday which isn't a good sign. There's always a problem with my coverage because I live out of state. FUCK INSURANCE.

Bobcat safely removed from Kirkland home after mistaken burglary call
A bobcat snuck into a home in Kirkland’s Moss Bay neighborhood – giving the homeowner quite the scare.
According to police, the homeowner called 911 after hearing banging and thought someone was inside their house.
“When officers arrived, they found the unexpected intruder perched at the top of the stairs: a bobcat,” the police department shared.
Officers believe the cat got in through an open window. It might’ve seen the homeowner’s cat and decided to follow it inside.
Police used a drone to monitor the bobcat’s movements inside and keep a safe distance.
