George Zimmerman has been found not guilty of second degree murder in the February 26, 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin. There's eventually going to be plenty of idiotic stuff that will be said about this by the usual people -- Tucker Carlson's Internet Dry Heave 'n' Dogwhistle Repository is undoubtedly writing most of Wonkette's content for the coming week at this moment -- but for right now, we're feeling more than a little sick to our stomach. Wingnuts have been spending the last few weeks salivating over the prospect of riots in the wake of a not guilty verdict; let's hope that they end up disappointed. Already tonight, we've had the obscenity of Zimmerman's defense attorneys playing the role of Sore Winners, calling Zimmerman's prosecution "disgraceful" and claiming that if George Zimmerman had been black, he "never would have been charged with a crime," which are certainly comments worth mocking, once we're finished being nauseated at them.
Ouch. Computer-generated advertising has a ways to go. Maybe that new sarcasm-detecting software could be modified to prevent bone-headed ad placements like this.
Reminds me of reading a story on the Laci Petersen murder several years ago: the headline was "Body Washes Ashore", accompanied by a prominent ad for Neutrogena Body Wash. (To my eternal dismay, I've lost the screenshot.)
The goal should be to register every single eligible voter in every gerrymandered and/or "purple" district. Do whatever it takes to get them their fucking voter IDs.
I would contribute significant (for me) wads of money to the effort.
Well, there is the recognized phenomenon of "suicide by cop." Obviously, this is a case of "suicide by deranged, racist, self-appointed neighborhood guardian/asshole." Let's hope it stays rare, and doesn't catch on.

Sadly I'm pretty sure its a Vast Conservative Conspiracy Marketing Opportunity already, regardless of what happens to Zimmerman. Even if he can't profit off it personally, there is nothing other than taste and class preventing people from making money from this, and that is not something the people in question are known to have in abundance.
I apologize to you. I'm sickened by the result of this. I feel that its important to understand all of the reasons that it happened. This might not be the right place for some of that. I meant no offense to you or anyone else here.
Here are my suggestions for constructive solutions:
1. Register voters of color like crazy, and help get them out to vote. That won't be enough in Florida, because in too many parts of the state, even if every eligible minority citizen voted, there are just too many Christianist Taliban voters to be able to change the State House. Just like Congress.
2. Register Floridians of color for concealed-carry permits like crazy. Then wait and see how Tallahassee reacts. Maybe there could be too much Second Amendment freedom after all.
