The outgoing people's terms just ended. The incoming people need to be confirmed. Then they can fire DeJoy. Then they can put someone competent in his place. (Then that person needs to be confirmed?)

It will but they're trying to reduce numbers of people who vote team blue and they figure they have the votes elsewhere to make up for this.

While looking at some Georgia counties I saw one shaped more like a gerrymandered GOP legislative district, with two main sections that are not exactly compact tied together by a narrow strip of land. I have never seen a county quite as oddly shaped as Ware County Georgia. Like Lincoln County it is mostly White and GOP, but with a sizeable Black population that may find it hard to vote if there is only one location open.

I'm not counting us out yet. Georgia came through in 2020 for Biden and the Senate. Stacey Abrams et al do a tremendous job getting the vote out. The GOP has factional issues as well, involving Trump and Gov Kemp. Long-term, generational change and population in-flow from the north may turn GA reliably blue. Keep the faith.

In my Georgia county, the (all Republican) Board of County Commissioners keeps trying to close down polling places, and our (Republican) Elections Supervisor keeps fighting them on it. (Yes, we Democrats always back her up when they return to the topic.) The last time she came before them one of them whined, "Will you at least THINK about it?" and Tracy said, "NO!" I love her.But we've got a battle on our hands in Georgia, for sure, and the power grab in making it harder for black people to vote is pretty gob-smacking in its openness. There's a bit of flummery about "saving taxpayer money" but nobody with any sense believes that.

Okay, fine. He is not an independent agent here, look at his donors, major energy polluters, which is mainly his real objection. Look at the fundraisers he's spoken at and attended. He is a deadman walking in the senate, surely voted out when his term is up. If he wants to stay relevant in DC, with the people he serves, he will be compliant with their wishes, unless someone persuades them it is in their interests to allow him to vote with the president on his agenda. His little mine services operation in WV is small potatoes and of no import in this negotiation.

I had a good friend who worked at NASA Ames, and I once attended a small wine tasting in Santa Barbara with a literal rocket scientist. Pretty much makes me an authority on these things.

I think that may in part be due to the Okefenokee Swamp. The geography surely influenced it, though I don't know why they didn't just make two counties. There also seems to have been a lot of reshuffling of borders among the counties in that area for some reason.
