Is it possible to embed a YouTube video here?

If so, check out this sweet 1944 film "The Secret Life of a Cat", narrated by Maya Deren and shot by her then partner:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_6e1O_NtK24?si=VczQT1wpzcfao1n4" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If not, here is the plain vanilla youtube linky thing (and sorry about that, but the film is worth it either way) :

I cannot believe that we judge a good soldier by the hair on his face. Oh yeah. It’s not about hair is it? Since it affects Black and soldiers of other faiths not Christian.

I would love to see Kegsbreath lead the charge in a battle. Not sure if he’d first turn tail and run, wet his pants or just call in sick because he needs to wash his hair that day. I am sure that that coward would just not actually be in an active foreign conflict. IF he did, the term “friendly fire” comes to mind.

About the beard thing, if you aren’t familiar with the issue: some military folk can’t shave daily, because it irritates their skin. They ask for and generally receive a “shaving waiver,” which allows them to shave every few days instead of daily. This is unrelated to the whole religious beard exemption - people on shaving waivers have stubble only.

The reason this is problematic is because people on shaving waivers are in the great majority Black - something to do with how their skin reacts to irritation. I would guess 90% from my experience. So eliminating these waivers will disproportionately affect Black guys. Which is of course the point.

Can't believe they exist. I picture such people saying "thank god, the ads on back on streaming TV – they're such a curated experience!" and "We switched to the gas station that blares ads on every pump because we didn't want to miss that cool retro sound quality reminiscent of a 1950s drive-in!"

From NYT editorial today:

"[M]ultiple data sources show that neither side has a monopoly on political violence, but it is more likely to come from the right. Between 2015 and 2024, 54 percent of ideologically connected killings were committed by people on the far right, according to the Anti-Defamation League. By comparison, 8 percent came from the political left."

Department of Retribution:

"Trump Expected To Fire U.S. Attorney Over Failure To Indict Letitia James: Reports

Trump is set to fire Erik Siebert, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, on Friday after his office failed to find clear evidence to bring criminal charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James, one of the president's top political opponents, ABC News and MSNBC reported.

Trump's team had previously pressured Siebert to indict James for mortgage fraud in connection to a home purchase in Virginia in 2023 despite the lack of proof, according to ABC.

ABC added that Trump plans to replace Siebert with a U.S. attorney who would probe James more forcefully."
