70 years together ain't bad at all
On the eve of the inauguration of the man who seems prepared to become the worst president in U.S. history, Yr Wonkette would like to send best wishes for a speedy recovery to the last sane Republican to hold the office, George Herbert Walker Bush, and to former First Lady Barbara Bush, who are both hospitalized for separate health issues. There weren't a lot of political areas where we agreed with him, but we never doubted his basic competence for the job of presidenting. Mr. Bush, 92, and his wife Barbara, 91, have both been admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital in the past few days. Mr. Bush is in intensive care with an acute respiratory problem resulting from pneumonia, while Mrs. Bush was admitted Wednesday "as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and coughing,” according to a family spokesman. Yr Wonkette wishes them both well, and if outrageous socks help an old guy breathe better, then by all means make sure the 41st president has some of those, too.
After a successful procedure to clear a blockage in one lung, Mr. Bush is said to be resting comfortably, and the couple is expected to be able to return home by the weekend. They'll be missing the inauguration of Donald Trump, which from a health perspective, is probably all for the best. We recommend they don't even watch on TV,as it may induce nausea, night sweats, and deep remorse for the direction the country has taken.
President Obama took a break from packing up all the imaginary guns he'd confiscated from Americans to send his best wishes, saying, "They are as fine a couple as we know. So we want to send our prayers and our love to them," and Bill and Hillary Clinton both sent Tweets wishing the Bushes well, because of how there is obviously no difference between Democrats and Republicans (WE ARE KIDDING, STOP YELLING AT US). Even Donald Trump managed to wish them a speedy recovery without saying anything about the indisputable facts that his strength and physical stamina are extraordinary and that he's about to become the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency. We're guessing that Tweet was sent by an aide.
As we say, there are plenty of things we disagreed on with GHW Bush while he was president, but he's been a reasonably good ex-president, what with the skydiving and the being an official witness for his lesbian friends' wedding. We wish him a speedy recovery and the chance to try to talk some sense into his party.
As to Barbara, we didn't used to care much for her -- rhymes with witch and all that -- but we like her much better now that she's a rhymes with witch who extremely obviously voted for Hillary Clinton. We rather like having her on our side.
I hope that most of the news tomorrow is about them.
They're not as bad, true. But if they don't change, they will become irrelevant. And by changing, I mean they shouldn't even THINK about moving further to the right.
