"Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) has criticized Donald Trump’s decision to send National Guard troops from Texas to invade Chicago, saying that 'Oklahomans would lose their mind if Pritzker in Illinois sent troops down to Oklahoma during the Biden administration.' As of the time we write this, Oklahoma’s governor’s mansion has not yet been burned to the ground."
This is a really big break within the GOP. I might not like Stitt, but he's not afraid of Trump and the MAGAts. He really is looking to be one of the leaders of the GOP once Trump is out of the picture.
On a side note, Stitt lost his personal home as a result of fires in Oklahoma last spring. Should something happen to the Governor's Mansion, then Stitt would be without a house, and might increase his empathy with those who are less fortunate than he is.
Here's MIT's response to the Loyalty Oath - er, Compact. Let's see what Mafia Don does next. Please know that every research dollar he yanks from us is $2.50 in future GDP that doesn't happen. (Yes, we deliver a 150% return on investment.)
Dear Madam Secretary,
I write in response to your letter of October 1, inviting MIT to review a “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education.” I acknowledge the vital importance of these matters.
I appreciated the chance to meet with you earlier this year to discuss the priorities we share for American higher education.
As we discussed, the Institute’s mission of service to the nation directs us to advance knowledge, educate students and bring knowledge to bear on the world’s great challenges. We do that in line with a clear set of values, with excellence above all. Some practical examples:
• MIT prides itself on rewarding merit. Students, faculty and staff succeed here based on the strength of their talent, ideas and hard work. For instance, the Institute was the first to reinstate the SAT/ACT requirement after the pandemic. And MIT has never had legacy preferences in admissions.
• MIT opens its doors to the most talented students regardless of their family’s finances. Admissions are need-blind. Incoming undergraduates whose families earn less than $200,000 a year pay no tuition. Nearly 88% of our last graduating class left MIT with no debt for their education. We make a wealth of free courses and low-cost certificates available to any American with an internet connection. Of the undergraduate degrees we award, 94% are in STEM fields. And in service to the nation, we cap enrollment of international undergraduates at roughly 10%.
• We value free expression, as clearly described in the MIT Statement on Freedom of Expression and Academic Freedom. We must hear facts and opinions we don’t like – and engage respectfully with those with whom we disagree.
These values and other MIT practices meet or exceed many standards outlined in the document you sent. We freely choose these values because they’re right, and we live by them because they support our mission – work of immense value to the prosperity, competitiveness, health and security of the United States. And of course, MIT abides by the law.
The document also includes principles with which we disagree, including those that would restrict freedom of expression and our independence as an institution. And fundamentally, the premise of the document is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone.
In our view, America’s leadership in science and innovation depends on independent thinking and open competition for excellence. In that free marketplace of ideas, the people of MIT gladly compete with the very best, without preferences. Therefore, with respect, we cannot support the proposed approach to addressing the issues facing higher education.
As you know, MIT’s record of service to the nation is long and enduring. Eight decades ago, MIT leaders helped invent a scientific partnership between America’s research universities and the U.S. government that has delivered extraordinary benefits for the American people. We continue to believe in the power of this partnership to serve the nation.
We're doin' fine in Chicago without the inflatables. We have teachers, parents, random hipsters in coffee shops, and the fucking fire department chasing those goons off our streets (they run away like the little bitches they are). Oh, and the literally spontaneous 10,000 marching down Michigan Avenue last night.
Disco Demolition Night was one of the sadly few purely cultural riots we’ve enjoyed, against the pernicious influence of soulless music. In retrospect, disco dissenters have gone the way of Luddites.
"Turning Point USA announced its own Super Bowl halftime show to compete with the big-game broadcast on NBC. Details on “The All-American Halftime Show: Celebrating Faith, Family & Freedom” are scant.
The wording of a survey on a website of “What musical genres would you like to see featured?” to gauge the tastes of its would-be audience pretty much reveals the intent behind its alternative venture. "Classic Rock” and “Worship” are among the options, but the first thing listed is “Anything in English.”"
Hey -- new topic: Whatever happened to Big Balls and his "carjack attack" in DC in the wee hours of the morning? Did those teens ever get charged? Or, since BB was probably there to buy drugs, did he decline to press charges? Just wondering ...
re: “You do not become a hero in your death when you are a weapon of the enemy in your life” to a pastor in a TikTok
This is clearly a transcription of spoken words. I think the pastor in his head thought "Enemy" (as in the Dark Lord, Satan, the Great Deceiver, etc.):
“You do not become a hero in your death when you are a weapon of the Enemy in your life” to a pastor in a TikTok
That puts a whole different spin on the comment ...

Have a nice weekend!
My first look at Thornton! Iz fein boi!
Kitty in disguise:
"What? No! You fed that other cat food earlier! I'm just a totally different cat who hasn't eaten yet!"
I don't have anything clever to say. This is so terribly cute. It's heartwarming. Thanks!
Wonkette kitty needs the wonkette diet plan.
Wonk chonk
I knew it was not a real cat because it was too skinny.
When it comes to punkin'
I think of prison rats
But, I must say I'm taken
By a Wonkette punkin' cat.
Your doggerel makes my morning. Thanks. They're drinking the coffee and eating the doggerels!
Genuine thanks. God knows I try.
Toon with 'tude in 'tume.
I'm an occasional shameless 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦r myself...
There must be an app that can fix that.
Pumpkin pussycat!
They prefer the more noble "Ginger".
The weekend is starting out great, and a Wonkitty tabs gif makes it even better.
Morrissey reference in the Tabs title! Like it!

Love the shout out to Morrisey. And the original Swedish "Let the Right One In" is a really neat movie.

I saw Charlie this morning riding on a horse with Jesus.
That totally doesn’t sound gay.

Looking forward to the numbers of who watches that drivel. I'm sure we will be lied to but someone will be able to tell us.
That would be faith, family and freedom for straight while males only. Everyone else is our targets to oppress and control.

That mother fucker is STILL bragging about the cognitive test.
I had to take it after my stroke in Feb (I got better, full recovery, perfect healing).
This was a week after the stroke. I could tell my brain was really foggy, not sharp.
I got a perfect score. I had to work hard, and the clock bit almost tripped me up, but I corrected myself in time (ha ha).
People, if you miss even one question on this, you need serious OT at least, if not escalating to some serious help.
(the day after the stroke, I failed the clock and the word recall, but I was in the hospital and being checked on 2x an hour.)
He's such a dumbo, he has no idea what anything is.
And I don't believe he actually passes this test.
I can pass the five word test but I can't pass the 20 word test. I do take Aricept for dementia.
I could not pass a 20 word test at my peak in my 20’s
I have nieces and nephews who can't draw a clock that isn't digital.
I still think Bobby Lesser's claim that the fetus develops in the placenta was more bizarre than his Circumcision + Tylenol = AUTISMS!!!!1! claim.
Thornton definitely has his "I'm not paid enough to deal with your shit" look down pat.
