I should have followed that question with "...because I might like to use you as a source for my next article."

subsidy? . . . if you have to install an engine that meets modern standards it would price the "glider" at the same point as a new truck . . . to subsidize that would be "picking winners" . . . just let the old blocks go for scrap (don't ship them to the third world!)

The don't need much more than good compression to keep on chugging. Maybe the gov't could subsidize and/or give incentives for after-market control systems on the old motors.

Sry - I saw your agreement in the rest of your post, but I guess I misinterpreted that first question.

Cal needs a state version of the Jones Act. A truck with out of state plates can only be delivering a cargo from out of state or taking a cargo out of state. No intra-state delivery by a truck with out of state registration.

Yeah, I bought a Prius Prime last year and I've had some guy in wealthy suburban Maryland blow smoke at me like that last year, plus when I drive in some corners of Trumplandia I get some aggressive driving from big-ass pickups and SUVs. Hey, you do you, OK? I bought this car because I have a round-trip commute of ~95 miles/workday and depending on various factors, I get the equivalent of 82 - 95 miles per gallon, while paying less than a buck a night for the electricity to power up the battery. My old car, a base model Ford Focus, needed to be filled up three times every two weeks. Now I only need to fill up once.

We agree. I just prefer to keep the rerences impersonal. I have friends who regularly say "Mother Nature" does this or that.. To me, that feels like the slippery slope to deification and religion. The world is a very indifferent "Mother". I used the graphic animal images for their impact. Being lost in the woods is just as threatening. I have been there wandering in circles on my own woodlot because I forgot my compass. The house was only 200 yards away.

"Challenging" you? I was agreeing with you. I was just interested because I thought you might have firsthand experience, that's all.
