This whole conversation reminds me of my experience as a hiring manager looking for statisticians and operations research analysts. I think it is fair to say that a great many people in technical fields, and I think this includes IT (also in my experience) neglect the all-important emotional intelligence skills. I have turned down a number of technically skilled applicants because they could not communicate well, and did not care to learn. My mantra has been "it doesn't matter how right you are, if you can't persuade people that you are right." So in general, I guess, I have to agree with Dr. Mean Girl. Those in IT who do have people skills may be roses among the thorns.
While they are at it maybe they can give their employees training on web hosting. One of my clients who does webcasts for large organizations upgraded from shared hosting to VPS. Godaddy moved their domain to the new hosting on a weeknight before a couple of webcasts and then started copying their files. Nothing worked because the PHP version and MySQL settings were all different. It was at that point that they informed my client, "well, we're not database administrators." They called me and I worked well into the night and got them up for the next day. Wasn't the first time and won't be the last I have cursed Godaddy's ill-chosen name. Also I kept thinking of that commercial where the cute lady takes your call and the nerdy guy fixes your website. I have more in common with the cute lady (at least I used to) but somehow I'm still the one cleaning up the nerd messes.
Grrrrrr. Normally, employees in my network get no bonuses. Normally, we get a big-ass party with lots of food and open bar. I went last year, ate a lot of vegetables, and danced my ass off.
This year, of course, we cannot have a party. I found out today that there was an online party on the 18th, but some of us, including me, never got the email. I'd much rather some cash, especially since my job pays so little, but that will happen when hell freezes over.
Please don't get me wrong. I'm grateful to have meaningful work, while so many are unemployed. I love helping people five days a week. But that doesn't make up for being underpaid.
"They" seem to think that nobody but THEM ever found their way around an OS. You're right: Insufferable.
H'burg (my old stompin' grounds -- or one of them XD ) is lucky as hell to have you! I hope the drunk Mennonites treat you right. lol ;)
The CEO has changed twice since I've worked at my job. Each time they have given all the employees $1500 out of their own pocket

Answer: Seven and a half cents.
I once got a 0.5% raise. My boss was mortified but our mew owners (Catalans that did not understand Bay Area job market) thought we were all overpaid.

It is yet Republicans keep doing it again and again and wonder why most minority groups won't give them the time of day.
Or pig.
No need to be a Jerk about it...;-)
Semantics at its most succinct is its own sort of eloquence.
