let's devise strategies that are based on emissions strategies, not based on eliminating fossil fuels

No one want to eliminate fossil fuels. We just need to leave them in the ground where God put them.

Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) gushing, "Climate denial is a bad political strategy [...] At some point, you have to be for something to fix it."

Funny that the guy representing the part of the Florida Panhandle that had the sh!t ripped out of it two years ago by a hurricane has a more tempered view on climate change.

False dichotomy, the answer could also be 'unknown'.

I hear nuclear also needs a lot of water for cooling. That said, I still think it could help, and the radioactive fallout from even a hundred accidents would cause less genocide than a runaway greenhouse effect.

insurance companies aren't stupid. The rich will make sure that taxpayers take the hit.

Right. It's not true in every instance, certainly, but I think it's true often enough that it can be applied as a general rule.

BTW, +1 for ''dichotomy.'' Here's the only song I've ever heard that used the word.

Conservatives think that we Californians are 'nutty environmentalists.' Except that when half the state burns down, it tends to get your attention.

It's the fossil fuel industry that's trying to eliminate them.

"Countries with a powerful death penalty, with a fair but quick trial, they have very little if any drug problem. That includes China."

I have my doubts. I'm pretty sure that the "drug problem" in Authoritarian/Totalitarian countries is analogous to what we had/will have in terms of abortion availability pre-/post-Roe-v.-Wade -- it's still there and it's still a problem, but it's more-or-less hidden from public view and those governments get to propagandize that they're keeping a lid on it. So most likely what will happen is that the Trumpcult will be able to use "Law & Order" as a means and excuse to *inflict more cruelty on the addicts/victims rather than actually spending money and time to address the problems that lead to the "drug problem".*
