It’s just so hard to comprehend the GOP race to the bottom. I mean, there have got to be a modestly significant percent of them who realize that this is nothing but doing the same thing and hoping it will somehow turn out differently. They may be mostly evil, but I don’t think they are ALL as stupid as Tommy Tubbs. Yet you can count the number who seem to have some fragment of integrity on the thumbs of one hand. So is it just peer pressure which keeps them in line?

I guess the reality is, they are smart enough to realize that a principled stand is a ticket to getting primaried. And while maybe some of them would LIKE to have a backbone, the reality is they far prefer to have a cushy job where they can tell people what to do. When in doubt, keep riding the train...

To be fair, it did illuminate the front porch in a festive way.

You would think they would have figured out that there is nothing to be gained by letting Americans die but instead nearly every republican of note jumped on Trump's anti-mask anti-science wagon.

Only if we let them.

It's laughable to think that "woke" came from universities. You know how black people love to get their lingo and marching orders from white professors.

They are on the side of giving white working class people a tiny edge for black working class people so that they don't join forces. Its literally been the strategy of the wealthy and powerful since the founding of our country.

problem is, white college educated voters (who are fleeing the GOP) reliably show up for midterms, and working class people of all colors (who are going towards the GOP) aren't gonna take a day off from work to go vote for a congressman they've never heard of. that's our advantage in 2022

here's the scary part, the GOP is very good at targeted marketing, which means they tailor their message to the specific voters instead of TV ads for everybody. when you look at the gains the GOP made in the minority vote it's bad. the hispanic voters that went for hillary in 16 and trump in 20 said the biggest reason was "law and order" (let me translate that for you, "the democrats care too much about the blacks) the black voters that did the same said their biggest reason was "immigration" (translation; "the democrats care too much about the hispanics) this is what should make every democratic strategist shit their pants

One thing the GOP is good at is handing people a maggot-infested turd and convincing them it's a candy bar. And when people realize they just bought a maggot-infested turd, the GOP turns around and blames it on liberal elites/immigrants/LGBTQ/nonwhites for stealing their candy bar.

They play up the cultural war bullshit because it works. Maybe not for a majority of Americans, but it does work with enough people in enough red districts to keep them in power.

A lot depends on redistricting for the House, and the swing seats in the Senate. Right now the CW is saying GOP picks up the House but Dems keep the Senate. But if Democrats are aggressive with redistricting in NY, VA, and CA, they can blunt the GOP gerrymanders in FL and TX. The rest comes down to the economy and grass roots turnout efforts.
