Remove the 40-hour limit requirement for overtime, health care, and other benefits. Then they can look for employees for any number of hours that they need, and multiple sub-40 employees would no longer have any benefit for the employer.

In fact, time and a half for over 40 hours, double time for over 48 hours, etc. So they would want as few employees possible to keep training, health insurance, and other costs down, but not so many that folks are getting higher pay for standard work.

Defenestrating Benedict Donald (metaphorically) is necessary, but not sufficient.

The entire Treason Party (fka GOP) must be defenestrated (metaphorically).

But just think, if the people without jobs aren't getting any stimmy they're going to need to get jobs back and they'll push to open the economy and then all will be just dandy (except for the dead people).

Also, too, remember the Repos are dead set (npi*) against letting businesses get sued for operating in an unsafe way which may be the most important part of the HEELS** proposal.

* npi=no pun intended, obvs. ** Yes, I spelled it that way on purpose.

The just shows that they really don't believe their rhetoric. It's just saying that sounds better in conversations with normal people than what they really think, which is, "I don't want my taxes going to help out blah people.:

The double-standard is alive and well when it comes to all things French. On the other hand (see what I did there? a bon mot!) given that the default bon-bon is chocolate, they might be down to the singular very quickly (the licorice-filled one), rendering this discussion moot. But then, when did that ever stop any of us?

I'm surprised Moscow Mitch hasn't insisted on a provision allowing employers and health insurers to cut off the health coverage for Covid-19 patients.

I guess that would look too much like murder even to the idiot base.

Uhg. I hate that none of these assholes think there's anything wrong with people earning less than $600/week. They keep saying "They're earning more staying home!!" Maybe that's part of the problem, you choads. Maybe people should be earning more than poverty wages.

It's particularly egregious with service workers that primarily rely on tips for their income. If people aren't going out to eat as much, how the hell is a waiter supposed to survive, even if they do go back to work? The minimum wage is so low in some states for tipped workers (a criminally low $2.13/hr), they'd essentially be working for free after taxes — though the soulless GOP ghouls in Congress probably see zero problems with that.

If they keep all their money in a hedge fund....are they "hedgehogs?"

This isn't cynicism and pettiness. They want to wreck the economy, scoop up any spilled cash, then blame it all on the Blue Wave they see coming.

Madame Speaker charges that, with the house on fire, Repubicans are arguing over how much to fill the buckets. With all due respect, that doesn't go far enough. As the house burns down, Repubicans are complaining that the buckets aren't working hard enough! They should probably be filling themselves, right?

But let's be clear what's going on here. It is not millionaire Congressmen that are at the heart of this. It's thier billionaire overlords who are absolutely terrified that the American people will discover, during this crisis, that the government could actually help them. They are determined to prevent that at any cost.

Cutting labor costs saves a ton, squeezes more production efficiency, reduces liability from HR and the cost of health care split decreases too. Covid has been a wonderful time for cheapskate corporations.
