What ever happened to critical thinking?

In 1980 a group of us medical students were run through the vaccination line during Army basic training. At a certain point we were asked, "Do you want your smallpox vaccine in the right arm or the left?" Being genius med students we pointed out that there had not been a reported case of smallpox in the entire world since the early 1960s. They told us, "Well, the Russians have enormous freezers full of the smallpox virus." We all said, "The left arm will be just fine."

In 1983 we were all required to get the brand new hepatitis B vaccine. No choice, no discussion. Viruses don't care about your fucking personal autonomy or your politics. Sick soldiers can't fight or do their jobs. Rommel lost North Africa because half of his troops were down with dysentery, not because he wasn't a brilliant battlefield general.

Time was, many Kentucky men joined The Profession, as James Jones put it. I guess it's not so common among modern Bluegrass State politicians. J.D. Vance, I'd love to hear your take on Rep. Massie's view that soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen can just quit. What would your great-grandfather say to that, and would any of it be repeatable in polite company?

General Washington knew the Nisenan and Mi-Wuk had already developed a vaccine. He was nobody's fool.

The dogs went along. The cats needed to be, uh, persuaded.

Somehow I don't think that designing a hamburger press, square with several wholes in it, necessarily requires any sort of degree, EE or otherwise.

I know that, and you know that, and all of *us* know that - but apparently not a one of them has figured it out.

Same. I was in the Navy. The military can send you anywhere in the world at any time. So vaccinating you against pretty much anything imaginable was routine. In boot camp, I got at least a dozen vaccines. I couldn't even tell you what they were for, and we weren't given an option.

We lined up. When our turn came, we stepped forward. Got a shot in each arm, and maybe a third one in the ass cheek just to be thorough. Repeat again 2 or 3 days later. We had several rounds of this over the course of 2 weeks.

Nope! Save the DD for people like Michael Flynn - they should call him up, court martial him and then DD him after a few years of hard labor. Things like lawful order, insubordination, etc. do not rise to the level of a DD - hell, not even a bad conduct discharge; they are undesirables

OK. It's time we had a new law for Congress. It's very simple. You cannot simultaneously be an idiot and a congress person. Sadly, this law would disqualify all Republicans and a portion of Democrats.

I was never in the service but I was a "fucking civilian" according to almost every sailor I met. I had orders that said I was to be considered a Lieutenant Commander, so then it became a "fucking civilian, sir', all kosher and everything. I was teaching on-board a ship for a year. The Doc called me in and said, "Take off your shirt, it will be easier that way." And then she started sticking me with needles and gave me a handful of pills. The little pink fuckers for malaria were the tough ones, I was nauseous for days afterwards. I asked what would happen if I refused and she smiled broadly and said, "I hope you are a good swimmer" and laughed. We were in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

I am soooo fucking fed up with these fucking assholes who are either too stupid to protect themselves, too selfish to protect others, too paranoid to believe that a proven, lifesaving vaccine can be anything other than an attempt to take away their "freedom", and are so easily mislead by a party that has politicized public health, either because they believe the same or because they don't give a damn if it gets them votes. This is the simplest thing in the world to understand: COVID is potentially deadly and significantly disabling; there now exists a vaccine(s) available to anybody in the US with very, very few barriers to access; if you get the vaccine, you are now protected from COVID and are also helping to create a situation where the few who are unable to be vaccinated to have some security, and failure to do so doesn't protect your "freedom" anymore than drinking a bottle of rat poison does cuz it's tyranny to suggest you shouldn't do so.Tired. So tired.

Agreed. But I don’t think these people trust them even to the point of administering the vaccine made by other entities. It’s not logical, and these aren’t very intelligent people. Mind you, it would be them and their colleagues administering it, because the NG is tasked with assisting in vaccination. So really they don’t trust each other either.

The military will mandate it once the vaccines have gotten full certification from the authorities. That’s the standard for all vaccines.
