The Capitol is a large complex consisting of several buildings and a series of underground tunnels connecting them, so it can be a confusing place to navigate. However, Rep. Ralph Hall, a conservative Texas Republican and supporter of traditional marriage, has been in Congress for more than 30 years so surely he knows his way around. Which makes
Legislation to "prohibit federal courts to hear or decide any question" about whether DOMA is constitutional?
Brilliant - pass an unconstitutional law, and then pass another even more blatantly unconstitutional law telling the courts they can't call the first one unconstitutional. Of course they'll need a third law prohibiting the second one from being shot down, and to protect that one they'll need a fourth . . . what a bunch of fuckwits.
One of my old club bands got booked to play a repeating out of town gig (up in Dok's old stomping grounds) on a night that was also the meeting night for local lesbians (lesbian club? Not sure what you'd call it- long before the days of meet-ups). First time out we kinda wondered why there were no men in the place and the only one getting hit on was our chick singer. Turned out to be a great audience, lot of fun playing for them.
You have to admire the hateful ingenuity of a guy who writes a bill that would prohibit federal courts from reviewing federal legislation. Of course you also have have contempt for a guy who is either:
(1) totally ignorant of the ability of federal judges to any damn thing they please, as they are appointed for life and can direct federal marshals to do their bidding; or
(2) a hateful bigot who introduces legislation he knows is unconstitional, but which will sound good to the yahoos in his district.
Christ, was he worried about being primaried? By whom--Hitler?
Fear. He was clearly afraid. Of what? He might have been genuinely afraid that, had he stayed, people might start thinking that he himself was gay. We see this a lot with irresistible, sexy 90 year old men. Or it could have been the fear that all that forbidden fruit congregated in one place would have proven overwhelming, causing his poor old, decrepit, closeted, self-hating, crazy-ass ticker to give out on him.
We had this kid as a featured guest performer at a Mariachi Conference this spring. I didn't hear his Anthem rendition the other night, but he killed on the traditional canciones at the festival. Talk radio certainly didn't invent bigotry and xenophobia, but they do a Hell of a job of fanning those flames on a daily basis- all in the name of appealing to ginned up white resentment and victimhood.

I read that as "necktie of garlic cloves" and thought "Oh, is that what it is?"

I hang out with straight people every day, but I just try to make the best of it.

Wouldn't it be easier to list the ones who aren't?
