Socialism is a scare word they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years. ... Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.
Go to Europe? Or stay here and get old in a place with virtually no social safety net and 90 million screeching christo-fascists making hard to keep my breakfast down?
The powers that be have been trying to Red Scare us for 100 years, anytime anyone proposes something that benefits the average citizen at the expense of the wealthy
Can someone point me to the place in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, or any other founding document where capitalism is declared a fundamental pillar of our nation?
This new trend towards a RED SCARE is yet another distraction from the horrible things the trump administration is foisting on the people in this country. F'rinstance, below is a piece from Wired. OPR (Office of Professional Responsibility) is tracking down US Citizens for saying nasty stuff about ICE. OPR is supposed to be an INTERNAL government organization rooting out misdeeds of government employees. Instead, they are tracking down US Citizens and trying to make them sign papers saying that they've been warned not to say nasty things about ICE. I see this as the leading edge of what will become a mass prosecution of US Citizens standing up to government over reach. Other than the Wired piece, I've only seen one other mention of this - but this could become a method to squelch opposition to government.
And they are the first to scream bloody murder when cleanup operations move slowly in the aftermath of terrible storms--as is happening this very minute in the Hudson Valley. "There's a tree down blocking my road! Where are the road crews!" "My power's been out since Sunday morning! Where's the dry ice?" And so forth.
Funny to me they are going full Commie. Interestingly, with my last couple of intro to politics classes when we talk about ideology the students by and large haven't walked in with a lot of negative conceptions of socialism - in fact many have talked up the Nordic countries. But they have little to no knowlege of Communism.
This feels like more evidence Dear Leader and his base are stuck in the 80s where everyone saw commies everywhere.
What they said: pollster Jim McLaughlin, doing his level best to find the sunny side for the GOP, argued Republicans can still ride out the storm by drawing contrasts on "banning transgender athletes from women's sports."
There it is. There's the whole goddamn strategy in one clause. The house is on fire β gas prices underwater, Trump's approval on handling the economy at a limp 31 percent, his gas-price number at a wretched 23 in mid-June Fox polling β and the big plan, the war room's best idea, is to point at some trans fifteen-year-old on a track in Ohio and holler hey, look over there. That is not a policy. That is a broke-ass magician who's out of tricks, sweating through his tux, waving the same tired scarf for the ninth time and praying to Christ you don't notice both hands are empty and always were. It has worked before, God help us. And they are betting the entire midterm it works again, because they have got not one other thing in the bag β not a single solitary idea for the price of your insulin, your rent, the eggs, the heat that just cooked two hundred million people while these clowns workshopped bathroom bills.
Let's examine Lisa McClain's scenario for a moment. Everything is FREE. NO monetary transactions at any point of exchange. Everybody just continues doing what they are doing exactly the same as they are. What would change?Eliminate profit? On my!! We now have pure Marxism. Everybody has what they need, nobody is rich or poor, the only value of goods is the labor it takes to produce them. Horrible!! Strikingly similar to economics as taught by Jesus Christ. Yep!! Jesus was a card carrying Commie.
"And all that believed were together, and had all things common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need." -- Acts 2:44-45
Luke 3:11: "He answereth and saith unto them, he that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise." -- Luke 3:11
"Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house?" -- Isiah 58:6-7
The Rethuglicons have reverted to the McCarthyism of the mid twentieth century. And damned badly insofar as their graphic demonstrations of narrow minded paranoia.
We can (rightly) mock her interpretation of Democratic Socialist policies. But at the same time, we have to recognize that this is the messaging that will be filling the brains of viewers of the most-watched network(s) for the foreseeable future. There needs to be a concerted effort to take Robyn's points and broadcast them as much as possible, to counteract it.

doesn't quite cut it. Democratic Party? I'm looking at you.

I think, this is way out there now, but I think the oligarchs might be getting a tetch nervous.
"Iβd love to hear what she thinks ought to be done about food deserts."
She thinks the surplus population should hurry up and die.
Out of sight, preferably.
And if you're communist tax dollars have to pay for bigger prisons and deadlier police forces to get there, so be it.
The powers that be have been trying to Red Scare us for 100 years, anytime anyone proposes something that benefits the average citizen at the expense of the wealthy
Because it works...everytime. It's like Elmer Fudd falling for a rabbit in a dress. Never fails.
Can someone point me to the place in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, or any other founding document where capitalism is declared a fundamental pillar of our nation?
It's in the fine print. Just like the parts in the Bible about abortion and Trans people.
Since the term 'capitalism' is a 19th century coinage.....

Let's all give a thought to the pressure on whoever happens to be the stupidest member of Congress today. There's always someone gaining on you.

At least over here in Europe, our leaders dont cheat in soccer.
Now there's a precedent, Starmer could try calling FIFA about the red card in the England game.
If the team had any self respect, they would abide by the red card no matter if it was a BS call or not.

They are running out of Others.
That's why they're back to 'Communists.'

The bible means what they say it means, which is, obviously, a real big part of the problem.

Kurt Vonnegut boiled it down to a simple sentence, "goddamn it you got to be kind!"
I prefer the Bill & Ted version. "Be Excellent to each other"

The midterm election cannot get here soon enough.
The midterm election must scaring the ever living shit out of them, also too.
The only thing that scares Nazi Republicans is if they can't get away with rigging the election.

This is so exactly on point.
The party machines, the DNC, etc., have NO desire to upset their status quo. They are getting paid will by lobbyists and campaign donors.
Itβs the everything is fine meme, except the dog is surrounded by piles of cash.
