Way out in the western part of the great state of Maryland is a mountainous land that is mostly rural and white and working class, more Winter's Bone than The Wire. This corner of the state has been represented approximately forever by Roscoe Bartlett, an 86-year-old Republican who has something of a reputation of being "one of the sane ones" on that side of the aisle.
Funny how the right wing nutz had no objection to the student loan program when it consisted of Federal loan guarantees. The private lenders took the profits and the taxpayers got the losses.
Mr. Obama didn't think the lenders needed subsidies. So now the Federal government is a direct lender - collecting over 3% when 10-year Treasuries are just over 1%. And the right wing fringe doesn't like it.
Meanwhile private lenders are back in the market without those Federal government loan guarantees are in some cases offering lower fixed rates than the Feds! Mr. Obama's plan worked.
I am really getting tired of these strict interpretation of the constitution buttheads. Cars weren’t in the constitutions were they? How about AK-47s? Cigarettes? Toilets? Huh? WHAT ABOUT THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL TOILETS!!!!!!!
